Did you know that a hate site is defined as one that is devoted to attacking an individual or group on the basis of race, sex, national origin, or creed?

Gravatar Yes, and religious fundies have thousands of them. Here's one. Here's another. So is it hate speech to criticize the behavior of ignorant people who promote hate?

Gravatar As I said, a hate site is one that is devoted to attacking an inidividual or group on the basis of race, sex, national, origin or creed.

Of course, the promoters always have a "reason" for their hate...but thats what the definition says.

Gravatar In fact, to group all relgious "fundies" with the groups you mention could be considered an example of that phenomena.

In my opionion only, of course.

Gravatar IANAL: Just reporting the facts is not hate. Calling a spade a spade is not an attack. Conjecture, without demeaning the subject,is also allowed. Is your heart on your sleeve?

Gravatar Dear IANAL: We share your concern about hate sites. Will you join with us to condemn all the fundamentalist Christian sites that attack the rights of our gay citizens?

For the record, RSR does not attack Christian or other fundamentalists for their beliefs. In fact we defend the right of all to practice the religion of their choice.

When, however, fundamentalists enter the political arena, their proposals become fair game.

Pointing to the inconsistencies in fundamentalist political positions hardly constitutes hate. We like to think of it as self-defense.

IANAL, it would seem your "opionions" are every bit as worthless as your spelling.

You want the term "hate speech" to cover, essentially all possible forms of criticism. Criticize anyone at all for anything at all that they do, and you want to cry "Hate speech! Hate speech!" (While, of course, dismissing the actual examples of hate speech constantly doled out by the folks on your side of the fence.)

In other words, you're simply wielding the phrase "hate speech" as an all-purpose club to censor anyone whose views differ from those of the relgious community. Nice try. But kind of obvious. And if you think that any of the posts here are even vaguely equivalent to the vile rhetoric spewed by the sites I linked to, you have a seriously dysfunctional sense of perspective.

Oops. Guess that was "hate speech".
