.....So you see this is what the ultra-conservative want. If we leave the door open on the Science Standards, boy are we in for it.
Yeah. Until they all turn on each other over the teaching of minor doctrinal differences and damn each other to Hell. That's when we can sneak back in.
Of course, by then all biological science will be done in Singapore and England.
Bloody good la!

Do they *really* want a scientific appraisal of their religious beliefs? Not in the long run, I think.

"But, the kids are not going to church and they need to get it somewhere."
It's a shame the lady submitted to her husband and left as he demanded. We didn't get to hear the rest of her thoughts:
"And many of these children will never get the real truth of the gospel because the parents who do take them to church attend ALL THE WRONG CHURCHES.
What do you think these people would do in 15 years if they had coercive governemntal power in their hands?

The result might be good in the long run. Look what the Puritans did to fundieism in England.
You'll just have to find someplace to export all of your Puritans once the country gets sick of them.

I thought conservatives advocated personal responsibility? This sounds more like they want the government to manage their spiritual needs. It's the radical right's version of the New Deal, except corrupt and smelly.

You' know, I'm not actually sure what the "got you" was meant to imply in this context. Is it a catchphrase or something that I'm forgetting? Would appreciate enlightenment.

Basically, he got her to admit that she wanted the schools to push creationism on kids who were not going to church. Ie. act in the role of church. Which is what most creationists claim they are *not* fighting for.

As long as the government supports good science we're safe in Singapore. But the rise of the fundamentalist right over here is something to be wary about. I don't doubt that a culture war will arise in the future.
