Gravatar I am not a lawyer nor will I resort to a Wikipedia definition (like Sal Cordova does), but wouldn't publishing falsehoods about an individual be libel and not slander which I thought was limited to verbal or unpublished defamation.

I'm probably in error because the Disco Institute is crawling with lawyers and, therefore, couldn't possibly be wrong.

Gravatar I'm not a lawyer either, but the institute's activities are mostly related to government policy, which puts them in the realm of politics. When you are in this realm, the high bar for proving libel, slander, etc. is almost impossibly high and not worth the effort.

Gravatar I'm thinking of dedicating one of my short stories to Bill Dembski--is this a good time to bring this up?

It's called "My Pet Trilobite" and it's about a real-life circus freak in the early 1900s (wait, wait, wait, you think you know what the story's about, but you don't...). It's actually about a man's psychological fight with himself. And it involves Pancho Villa. You figure it out.

Gravatar Kristine - And it's all brought about because he was picked on by all the other kids when he was in grade school, and they always made him cry, cuz he was such an idiot?

Yeah, I can see that as fitting Dr. Buffalo Bill...

Gravatar Hey, I was picked on by the other kids, and look how normal I am! Nothing weird about me!

I didn't even mention my other short stories--"Selfish Jean" and "The Intended Phenotype" (with a third installment in the works, guess what it's called?)--which deals with a creationist, an evolutionary biologist, and a female android. Oh yeah, even though the Dembksi-inspired character comes off quite well I'm afraid I'm going to get sued!

Gravatar Everywhere else in the world that I'm aware of the Director of Information Services is the head of IT not some PR guy. I mean I essentially hold that title in my organziation. We are the Information Services (IS) deparment. What the hell is the resident computer nerd doing getting involved in these things?

The can't even get theit titles straight.

Gravatar This "Director of Information Services" is easily found on DI's website: Matthew Scholz. He did website design and layout for another esteemed site: iconsofevolution.com . Oooh! I'm impressed.

Gravatar So, you admit that the fact of his having designed iconsofevolution.com is a form of ridicule?

Yeah, I heard about the atheist who died. Didn't go to hell. Hahaha.

Gravatar Now that this has been mentioned in the talk.origins newsgroup you can expect some more (strange?) comments. (I hope.)

Gravatar Oh, somebody got deleted! Now my reply makes no sense.
