Gravatar So Nixon was right -- there's nothing wrong with America that a good election can't cure.

Gravatar How about those intelligent enough to fight these folks set up a small operation to fund press releases and rapid response advertising right from the first sign of another resurgence of the IDiots?

Gravatar Watch for flyer distribution at churches on Sunday the fifth -- two days before election. Past elections have featured this tactic, and it's been very effective for those interested in promoting conservative positions. Flyers will be placed upon car windshields in the lots that day, leaving scant time for response. Think NOW before allowing this to happen.

Gravatar Hm

Wouldn't that suggest some counter leaflet-ing?

Gravatar Remember DI's John West telling Channel 49, on July 7 -
The Seattle-based Discovery Institute said their only goal is to spread the truth. The Institute said the timing of their new public information campaign has nothing to do with the upcoming State Board of Education elections.

“We are not involved in the election. Period,” Dr. John West, Kansas Discovery Institute, said. “We are involved in public education about issues.”

Didn't he also say that the KS science standards don't include ID?

Ah loooove the smell of fundies fryin' in the mornin'!

Gravatar rubble: I guess I don't understand how anyone's supposed to stop it, in what passes for a democracy anyway.

In good (albeit mostly unrelated) news, I hear that the Bush Administration is being investigated for fudging the science on global warming. Dunno about anyone else, but that perked me up more than my morning coffee and leftover Halloween candy.

Gravatar Hot dang, that's good news, cubiclegrrl. Bush is the new Nero, playing Heaven's harp while the earth burns.

And ID is like a "house built on sand" where, incidentally, Paley found his watch.

How's them metaphors? Steal them, use them, if you like them!

Takes $$$. Lots of them.

No doubt, some preachers will spend time this Sunday telling their congregations who to vote for - it happened just before the primary, and there's no reason to think it won't happen this Sunday.

The message, "If you're a real (insert religion of choice here) you'll vote for _______" is widespread.

Gravatar News Flash!

Gravatar Money to fight ID would not be that hard to acquire or to administer. The key would be creating the proper entity with the proper CPA and legal counsel (*I'm an attorney - and, NO I don't want the counsel position*) to withstand any audit.

The operating agreement established with the entity should place a narrow focus on the entity to "inform" the public every time another one of these disguised religion-in-schools program starts up. Eliminate any pay for members/directors -- pick up liability coverage for SLAPP suits and start collecting funds by putting the story of the founding of the entity in Skeptical Enquirer, Science, Nature and work out a micropayment program for college / HS students --- with a decent, but not flashy, web presence.

Negotiate with public interest law firms and try to cut deals with advertising agencies to be paid through the PILF so the creative entities can't be black balled out of business for supporting the cause. See if we can cut deals at cost for everything but air time.

We would have to be prepared to litigate the denial of access to the airwaves - but that's where the PILFs come in, too.

There is enough money in sub $10.00 donations world-wide to fund this. Kansas can keep from going down a third time if we prepare now.

Gravatar Silence from the ID folks can mean but one thing. They have abandoned ID, teach the controversy, and critical thinking---and are now sequestered in some hole hatching their next plot to milk that old philanthropic geezer that keeps them financially afloat. Wait a minute!! Afloat? The door is ajar. The door is a jar. Sorry, couldn't help it.

I shudder to think what the next round of DI inanity will be.

Gravatar Hard to see where the IDists can go next, seeing as not only YEC and ID have specifically been ruled unconstitutional to teach in public school science classes, as well as "teach the controversy," "critical analysis," and other stock phrases designed to mislead.

But I'm sure they'll come up with something. Like maybe new American History standards and curricula emphasizing that our nation was founded as a "Christian nation." And promoting the lie that the separation of church and state is a "myth."
