Gravatar Let Casey be Casey - from his double-wide trailer in Boaz, Missouri. People with his world view are concentrated in such places and usually live off of road-kill.

The right wing posts pictures of physicians that they want odd loonies like Paul Hill to kill; perhaps we could post the pictures of the boys and girls who need a good Pie-in-the-face.

It just brings the level of the discourse down to the appropriate - bands of clowns tossing pies ought to appear and give homage to the loonies at every public setting with Banana-cream pies.

Nothing brings the level of discourse down to the proper level faster than a good pie fight. Imagine Luskin, Limbaugh & Coulter spewing cream and crust rather than disgust! Why, it is a revolutionary concept.

The Bozo (TM) Pie Party line starts to the left....

Gravatar Pat: Thanks so much for posting that link. I find YouTube a trackless desert, hard to find ones way around, and I dont hang out there much, looking for anything.
This, on the other hand, was more than worth the time and I never would have seen it without your help.
I can also see some of the genesis of your back-and-forth with PZ about atheists, etc. Certainly if everyone was as reasonable as Dr Miller, there would not be a problem.
But since Rev Robertson would not be able to keep shut, soon or late it would devolve into a shouting match.
Thanks again. I read RSR every day, and hope one day to meet you somewhere at a meeting in the KC area.
Very glad I ran across your work.

Gravatar Oh yeah, George O'Connor knows his stuff.

Thats why he has a little office in Parkville and references a homepage that he is not even mentioned on.

I notice in some other posts you were calling for the elimination of these people from society.

What's up, George, losing your spunk?

Gravatar I believe that video is well over a year old, odd that they are getting worked up over it now. Just wait till they hear about Tiktaalik and the 2006 elections!

Gravatar Captain Quirk - The Journal of Irreproducible Results is an entirely appropriate "homepage" for most of the conversations the ID folks foist upon us. I suspect that you misinterpret the nature of that link.

George's office is indeed in Parkville. I've been there. It is a two-story ranch house devoted to the law practice. Call it little if you wish.

You stated, "I notice in some other posts you were calling for the elimination of these people from society" - I usually receive an email copy from George when he is on a tear. I've never seen him call for "elimination" if by your use of that word you consider it to be extermination.

I know George suffers fools not at all and I expect that the circumstances are that he was calling for the exclusion of fools from the public discourse - as he did by suggesting clowns and pie fights today in this thread.

I also note that he uses his entire name and that you have easily located his office. Care to put your name and address out there - or do you prefer to snipe from behind a pseudonym?

Are you going to own up to your real name Captain?

I'm not hard to locate, myself. You could search any number of scientific journals published on the web dealing with Public Health / emerging diseases - especially MRSA and TB and I'm he only "Douglas" authoring from St. Louis. Find me.

Gravatar It's an annoying troll who has been banned everywhere he's posted, I'll wager.

Gravatar Ah, "The Journal of Irreducible Results", it's been years since I read that under its original title, "The Worm Runner's Digest" when in paper and ink. It's always been a great send up for the nonsense that sometimes passes for science. If the DI had any science output at all—which it's yet to demonstrate—the JIR is the perfect outlet. In fact, I'm sure their first paper could almost be guaranteed publication—of course, The editors might even put Demski's mug on the cover, so long as he wore clown makeup and was demonstrating his sound effects prowess.

Gravatar I see that I don't have to respond to Captain Queeg (er, Quirk) thanks to Doug, Mousie Cat and Keanus. I appreciate it, folks.

I'll buy the first 50 shaving-cream pies.

Shame that the Captain didn't drop in - I was in my office - and, I'll be there again tomorrow.

Consider it an offer to drop in for a cup of coffee, Capt. (OR, any of the rest of you who happen to be in Parkville and I'm not swamped. If I'm swamped, you get the quick tour, your coffee and I continue to work....it's nature of the beast - the law is a jealous mistress).

I heartily agree that JIR would be the perfect venue for ID research.

I have two "home page" links - depending on which machine I'm posting from - both are JIR - there ARE two sites!

Also, I have the hard-bound copies of the first three volumes. I'll run them to the office in case any of you drop by.

HAPPY SPRING! (Equinox) Dogwoods in bloom everywhere.

Gravatar Wasted life.

Yes, indeed.

Let's see. Ken Miller, full professor at Brown University. Researcher with grant money and graduate students. Author of several biology texts used in high schools across the country. Regular publications in scientific journals.

Dembski, Baptist Seminary, no grant money, no graduate students. Third job in three years. No textbooks. No journal publications.

Hmmmmm, so close, aren't they?

Gravatar Dembski still has a job? I thought his ability to keep the same logo on his paycheck ranked right up there with that other burden on society known as my sister's husband...

Gravatar Doc Bill,

My sentiments exactly. To add to what you've mentioned, Ken Miller is also a husband, a father, and a devout Roman Catholic. He's a gifted speaker and has a wonderful sense of humor. When he takes part in debates (something he's gifted at), he is courteous to his opponents. And despite all the accomplishments of this incredibly talented man, who seems to be a fine person besides, his life is a total waste. Why? Apparently because he doesn't believe that God personally designed the bacterial flagellum?

This brings to mind O'Leary's silly claim that Dr. Francis Collins, director of the human genome project, who is now working on the cancer genome atlas project, is an intellectual lightweight. (You see, she didn't like his book.)

Gravatar In fairness to Dembski, you should refer to him as Herr Doktor Doktor Dembski.

Bob

Gravatar I saw the Miller lecture. Even considering that ID is simply a veneer for a pack of lies, Miller ripped up the last shreds of respectability from it. BillyBoy and his bootlickers would be mightily angered whenever they see the video. Because Miller unlike many other scientists not only is a fine scientist but also has a rapier wit. He can smirk and snub the socks off any IDiot (BillyBoy included) who dares as much as open his mouth. So what else can bootlicking brigade do but gnash their teeth and scream their heads off from their echo chamber. It is fun to watch GilDodgen or Daveturd or Denise rail against their strawman darwinism. It is as effective a voodoo man sticking pins into a puppet. Looks stupid and is hilarious.

Gravatar I thought that you first had to have some results before they were irreproducible. ID doesn't seem to qualify for that journal either.

Gravatar RSR said,
An ardent opponent of creationism and intelligent design, Miller served as an expert witness in Selman v. Cobb County and Kitzmiller v. Dover Area School District, two court cases that ended in decisive defeats for Dembski's intelligent design movement.

"Decisive defeats"? The Cobb County case was settled out of court when the school board took a dive after the district court decision was vacated and remanded. The Dover decision is just an unappealed district court decision which has been thoroughly discredited: (1) most law journal articles about the case are critical of the Dover opinion, particularly Judge Jones' decision to rule on the scientific merits of intelligent design; and (2) it has been revealed that the opinion's ID-as-science section was virtually entirely ghostwritten by the ACLU.

Gravatar Dear Larry: Surrender = Defeat. Live with it.

Gravatar Larry, Larry, Larry. Take your meds.

Has the Cobb County decision been overturned because of "criticism?" No.

Has the Kitzmiller decision been overturned by "criticism?" No.

Have the elections in Ohio, Kansas and Pennsylvania been overturned by "criticism?" No.

Well, until they are, you demented little fool, those decisive defeats for creationism stand. We'll be more than generous to heap praise upon your hairy little evolved-from-a-common-ancestor's butt when those defeats are reversed.

Until then.

So, your complaints and $2 will buy you a cup of coffee. Enjoy.

Gravatar I watched the video and it was a fascinating lecture. But I believe Dr. Miller made two errors wrt Dr. Behe's position.
First, irreducible complexity only requires that the existing function fail, not all function. This of course means that Behe's argument is against a strawman version of evolution so Dr. Miller is guilty of assuming that Dr. Behe is being honest in his attack. He is too trusting.

The second is the dealt cards example to counter the complexity probability argument. Behe and friends refer to specified complexity and the cards don't match it (I presume). The problem is, it appears that the only sure way to know if a specific example of complexity is specified is to ask Behe and friends. Still, the cards example doesn't address Behe's argument, such as it is.

Gravatar Red State Rabble said,
Dear Larry: Surrender = Defeat. Live with it.

In Cobb County, it was a wimpy school board -- not critics of Darwinism -- who surrendered. The school board had the upper hand because the appeals court panel that remanded the case was leaning towards reversal, so the school board took a dive. Live with it.

Crock Bull said,

Has the Cobb County decision been overturned because of "criticism?"

The Cobb County decision was vacated because of criticism, and that is sort of an overturn. No final overturn was possible because the school board took a dive and settled out of court.

Has the Kitzmiller decision been overturned by "criticism?"

The Kitzmiller decision was not appealed, so how could it have been overturned?

Have the elections in Ohio, Kansas and Pennsylvania been overturned by "criticism?"

Those election results were partly driven by exaggerated fears of exorbitant attorney fee awards to plaintiffs in establishment clause lawsuits, and those fears are soon to be ended by the impending passage of a ban or cap on those awards.

Gravatar Crock Bull sez:

Thank you, Larry.

I think this is the first time in blog comment history that you have admitted defeat.

You displayed a shred of honor and it didn't hurt too much, did it?

All the best,
C. Bull

Gravatar I think this is the first time in blog comment history that you have admitted defeat.

Since when is returning an insult an admission of defeat?

You insulted me by calling me a "demented little fool" and referring to my "hairy little evolved-from-a-common-ancestor's butt," so I insulted you.

Gravatar Terms of endearment.

Gravatar I'll bet Dembski can't wait for an opportunity to "debate" Miller in a courtroom, where Miller will be under oath and Dembski can squeeze the vise on him! Oh...that's right; never mind.
