I'd like to know how much Dembski and Behe get paid for these screeds.
This stuff has to be driven by the profit motive.

Yeah, and the money better be good, because otherwise it would really suck to be Dembski.

And in that retraction, Dembski specifically states:
In addition to getting certain facts wrong (not all of them: Padian in his letter above does not dispute that he singled out “young” “Asian” “fundamentalists” as supporters of ID), I also wish to apologize for engaging in an ad hominem against him (I called him a “bigot” and compared him to Archie Bunker).
Even though he has expunged from UD the entries which called Padian a racist and compared him, on those grounds, to Archie Bunker, he has continued to use the "Archie Bunker" epithet, in this latest entry and another one he links to from there, pretending that it means nothing more than "unsophisticated."
What a contemptible little man.

Just how far, ethically and morally are Demski and Hovind from Fred Phelps? Both are willing to pervert the Bible to their own ends, both are, IMHO, disgusting examples of humanity.
At least Demski isn't quite this repulsive - yet...
Although in a way, Demski's actions are more dangerous, and insidious than Phelps'. Since Demski is (or pretends to be) more reasonable, people don't have as much of a revulsion when they listen to him or read his writings, which allows him to sow doubt in the minds of the uneducated.

Hovind lies somewhere in the middle, it seems to me, less disgusting than Phelps, more obviously a liar than Demski...

I saw Dembski once, at the last DDD conference held in KC. Within the first few minutes, the audience's enthusiasm had turned to boredom. His presentation is eye-glazing. Especially when he talks math that his audience can't possibly comprehend. Not that they're dumb or uneducated (which some were), but most normal people do not understand higher mathematics. Someone needs to teach Dembski how to talk to humans. Oh, and how to be truthful.

Dembski's caricature of Kevin Padian is as pathetic as Ann Coulter attacking Jack Murtha's service record.
Kevin Padian is a dinosaur expert of world renown, biology professor at UC Berkeley, and curator of their paleontology museum. (Also an undergraduate classmate of mine.)
Dembski is a "research professor in philosophy" at a small bible college.
Padian excavates fossils worldwide, and is often published in Nature, Science, and National Geographic.
Dembski mines quotes from his armchair, makes pedestrian caricatures with his computer, and is often cited by the AIG website.
Padian was an integral member of the winning team at Dover that reversed the mounting assault on science education. Dembski was a no-show for the losers.
So I think this kind of trash is more a matter of ugly jealousy than money. Kevin Padian is president of NCSE, an enormously successful scientist and educator.
Dembski's a loser, fired from his last real job, taken seriously only by zealots and quacks.
The only thing between him and obscurity is the controvery he manufactures. Just like Ann Coulter.

"The only thing between him and obscurity is the controvery he manufactures. Just like Ann Coulter."
And, just like Ann Coulter, we can expect him to get even more shrill and wacky as his reputation and influence continue their slow decline.
It won't be pretty...

"So I think this kind of trash is more a matter of ugly jealousy than money."
I think you hit the nail right on the head. He has an ego as big as a galaxy. He believes that he'd be rich and famous beyond all measure now, were it not for those mean old scientists.

We could run Dembski's hypocritical statements through his design filter by now, given the preponderance of data. Pat probably has a template for these kinds of posts by now.
It's rather depressing, actually, to look back upon the kindly Sunday School ladies of my youth and contrast them with what industrialized religion has done to this country in the last three decades or so. It's devolved from "Do unto others" to "Do as I say, not as I do."

I think it's still "Do unto others," only followed by "BEFORE they do it to you!"
IOW - from golden rule to paranoia...

With Palin, religion and religious views so in the news these days, I’m wondering what you and you all think about this. I came across this interesting site, opposingviews.com the other day while doing some research on religion and its place in politics.
It’s a site where there are numerous interesting debates on all sorts of subjects that are on everyone’s mind. The debate that specifically captured my attention is the one asking whether Intelligent Design has merit. I do like the idea that their debaters are not simply average people giving their opinions, but all are experts in their chosen fields.
The point of view that really got to me though, is the one from the Ayn Rand Institute in which they call ID a supposedly non-religious theory, and a crusade to peddle religion by giving it the veneer of science. They use words like it is metaphysical marijuana intended to draw students away from scientific explanations and get them hooked on the supernatural. I’d like to place my comment there, but I’d really like to get some input from you before doing so. Here’s the specific debate I’d like to comment on. http://www.opposingviews.com/arg...bait-and-

You can't put evolution in the Bible. Don't put it in our churches.
Support real Christianity in churches.
----
Faith : Belief in God wether we see Him or not. Belief that something that cannot be seen, but we know is real through actions in our lives.
Science: The non-existant subject of investigating things in the natural world. Was hijacked by radical leftists and left for dead after that. AKA : Darwinian evolutionists, atheists, socialists, democrats, liberals, etc.
