Gravatar SJ writes, "Krebs intemperate remarks, he was really getting lathere us in the @ and A, were hilarious."

Huh? I assume you mean Q&A, but I can't figure out what "lathere us" means.

But anyway, what was "intemperate" about my remarks? You had mentioned "scientism," and both Ed and I acknowledged that there were people that were too dismissive and rude towards people who had religious concerns. I have a tape of the session and will listen to my remarks, but I can't recall what was "intemperate" about them.

Gravatar The most interesting, previously unreported bit of information from Ed Humes was this:

The Dover School District did not or could not get any of its regular Biology teachers to teach Intelligent Design.

Instead, special ad hoc "instructors" went from classroom to classroom, to teach ID.

And the students were instructed beforehand, NOT TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS about the lesson.

Just when you thought you had heard everything. Yeesh!

Gravatar In the book, Ed explains that the supt. and asst. supt. went into the class to read the statement while the teachers (all of whom refused to read the statement) and any students who so choose stepped outside. The statement that they read ended with a line saying that the students could ask on questions.

Gravatar Yes, Jack. (I think you meant to write "no questions", not "on questions".)

From p.221 of Humes's book:
"On January 18, 2005, Asst. Superintendent Mike Baska walked into the biology classes and read the carefully prepared [ID] script. About 160 students heard him...15 students opted out, along with ALL THE SCIENCE TEACHERS (my emphasis) WITH ALL THE EXCUSED STUDENTS... In keeping with the board's mandate, NO DISCUSSION OR QUESTIONS WERE PERMITTED."

As I said in my original post, yeesh!

I can recognize undemocratic, Orwellian traits when I see them.
This isn't just a polite disagreement.

This isn't the "live and let live" philosophy that underlies much of American constitutional history. No, this attitude of the majority on the previous Dover School Board is AUTHORITARIAN. That's what the "no questions" policy starkly reveals.
