I had a Sinclair with 1k memory (upgraded to 17k), then a VIC 20, then a home-made Apple IIE before breaking into an IBM XT.

At grad school 1988, I got to use a laptop. Weighed about 10 pounds and had a 20 MB hard drive. Whoo hoo!

I worked at TI for a summer around the same time and they had a portable computer. It was huge and heavy and had a small tube screen in it. It was only portable because it had two hard handles on it.

I swear its power source had to be a fission reactor or something.
