We’re just going to be constantly in this battle of bumper stickers.

Now that sounds a bit unduly pessimistic to me. I'm sure America will find room for the crucial issues, like who's got the shiniest flag pin, etc.

Bill Moyers Journal is the only show I make a point of watching to keep up with American politics. It's surprising how little there is of substance that actually needs attention and an hour once a week pretty much does it.

It's utterly ironic that dozens of 24-hour news networks devote hours and hours and hours to soundbites; all that time and resources wasted disinforming the public.

In Eric Boehlert's Lapdogs : How the Press Rolled Over for Bush, he has a chapter on how the Bush-appointed Kenneth Tomlinson, the head of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting went after Moyers and Moyers ended up vindicated by simply being decent. Tomlinson was fired for contravening regulations and Moyers is back on PBS. One small victory in a recent history of deplorable corruption.
