It's an interesting tactic--it's unamerican to want to change the U.S.
As for the brain drain to the U.S., it seems as though it might be heading in reverse now.

What a laughable article. You would never guess that Canada's economy has been outperforming the US' for several years and that the brain drain often has more to do with being able to be a bigger fish in a bigger pond and sunnier climate than "stagnation" under an oppressive (ummm... Conservative) government.
I also lived in the US (Dallas) for many years. I have duel citizenship. I moved back here because the job opportunities were better. I had less worries about crime and the social institutions - schools, etc. - function better here.

I should also add that it's funny that they mention the "brain drain" but neglect to mention that the 5th largest source of immigrants TO Canada is the U.S.

Whooee! I reckon Merkan voters is only slightly more susceptible to "ridiculous distortions, hackneyed stereotypes and fact-free assertions" than Canajuns. If it fits with yer prejudices, it's gospel.
I reckon our healthcare system could work better than it does. Maybe it's help if we shifted that $1,400 million a year we dole out to the oil and gas industry into our healthcare budget. Or, we could clean up the dirty air that kills 9000 Canajuns in the Great Lakes basin every year. Them premature deaths, along with an exponential number of hospital visits on "bad air days" are costing our publicly-funded system billion$ -- all avoidable.
Obama is the very picture of multi-culturalism and he's a bit more progressive than his opponent, Tweedle-Dum.

The "Brain Drain" is so early 1990's. I mean really. When I moved to Edmonton last year, I had a Doctor and Dentist within days. A Month ago, my Doctor moved to Kelowna. I had a another new Doctor within a day. No lie.
Buying into the 15 year-old stereotypes helps the disenfranchised maintain their self-loathing disposition. Why don't they just move to the USA? Answer: Because they know they have nothing marketable down there, either.
Kate's little copyright infringement job would have her in litigation within MINUTES where she to ply her "trade" in the good 'ol USA.

I reckon our healthcare system could work better than it does.
Remember, Canada's health care system has been the target of a well-financed propapaganda campaign led by American-based coporations; mainly Big Pharma and the insurance companies and duly supported by our colonised, branch-plant business elite.
I noticed it's abated in the last few years as the economics of health care in the US have become more dire and it's become less deniable in the MSM to ignore that a majority of Americans support some form of universal health care. But never discount the ability of Americans to be susceptible to the propaganda that some change will result in loss of quality, the degradation of standards and the introdution of...*gasp*...socialism, since they desperately cling to the myth that they have the best of everything in the world, as instructed to believe by the plutocrats who rule them...despite the fact that, on virtually every output measure of health, they lag behind the rest of the developed world.

Well, according to an American (Harvard) study Canadians have better access to a doctor than Americans do. And this is despite spending less than half per capita on health care costs.
* Canadians were seven per cent more likely to have a regular doctor
* Canadians were 19 per cent less likely than Americans to have their health needs go unmet.
* Americans were more than twice as likely to forgo needed medicines because of cost.
See: Canadians healthier than Americans, study says
You never would have guessed that the Canadian economy has outperformed the US for the past 7 years, that unemployment is near a 30 year low and that the government and social security system have been running multi-billion dollar surpluses instead of multi trillion dollar deficits. And you never would have guessed that despite the decrepit healthcare system, Canadians live longer than Americans, are less obese than Americans and are even taller than Americans and have better patient outcomes than Americans using their healthcare system.

I frankly never cared until the attacks on our system started, some of it being generated by Americans located in Canada who are pushing for private medicine, because there's a real "market opportunity" here. A certain Cherry Tab (yes, that's her real name), who organised pro-USA rallies in Toronto just after the American invasion of Iraq and runs a health clinic in Toronto, is one such individual.

I have to agree with the paper, what works for us does not mean it will work for them, I think thats the message they are trying to give...nonetheless, b.o.'s economic poilicies are a disaster for america and would be a disaster for us, I am a little surprised at the low brow attempt, to sell this wind bag to fellow canadians, seem to me that even though most people know his policies are all over the place, still you support this person, just because hes black of you hate bush so much your willing to sell canada down the drain, and i am a liberal....

Canadian journalists or "journalists" reporting on the campaign in the US are just as mystified as the rest of us.

Wow — I'm sure you've did a thorough analysis of Ombama's policies before arriving at the assertion they will be "a disaster"... Or is it possible that YOU are the one who's a "windbag"? By the way, speaking of people with policies that are "all over the place"... Ladies and gentlemen, John McCain!

Obama is on the Maury Povich show when it airs the episode, "American or Canadian?"
I can hear an audience member screaming, "He's a Canadian! I can tell by his neck! He's a Canadian!"
Another audience member: "With a name like Obama, he must be Canadian or one of those French people up thar."
Finally Obama reveals who he is by stripping down to his "Daniel Craig" swimsuit with words printed on his tushie--I am" on his left tushie.
Audience members: "Aghhhhh! He's a...!"
Maury: "I could have told you so. Now let's see the Dixie Chicks again! American or Canadian?"

It's been that way as long as I can remember. It used to mean "boring," then it meant "stupid;" now it means "evil."
"Canada: Boring, stupid and evil." Hmm...sounds like Stephen Harper's last address to the AEI.

The only person I've seen among the Liberals who could really counter that effectively is Martha Hall Findlay. She gets a smile on her face and a glint her in eye everytime she talks about Stephen Harper.

Red, I'm down in Chicago right now and at a bar the other day I overheard two middleaged gentleman get into Obama/McCain argument. The Republican feller (who seemed quite nice) said that he would never vote for Obama because he "didn't want the U.S. to become like Canada". My, my I thought to myself, late afternoon drunken political discourse at it's finest.
Also, at the same bar weeks before a madman jumped up out of his seat and shrieked to the eveyone in the bar "the free market is genius!".

Sorry firls but without the USa protecting your sorry asses and without USA televisiona and sports, you idiots would be in the dark.
We all know that Liberals are the most ignorant pieces of shit in the world, but you cant deny that without America, you dummies would be starving to death like the Bulgarians.
It's amazing that its always rejects talking down the USA.
Not Wayne Gretzhy or Avril Lavigne or the tens of thousands of other Canadians who CHOOSE to live in the USA.
Maybe you should ask all the Canadians living in the USA why they don't move to Toronto.
Fucking idiots.

I cant wait till Alberta separates from Canada and then all the commies in Toronto , Montreal and vancouver can starve to death.
You people are so jealous of the USA that you have to post stupid fucking comments.
I mean, everything you do is American.
Nothing you do is Canadian,
And you fucking dummies know it.
Enjoy watching Canadian idol tonight and remember that without American idol, there would be no Canadian idol.

Hi Stephane,
Without the British "Pop Idol", there would be no American Idol.
Certainly, the United States is a great country. Many innovations come from the US. The standard of living is very good overall.
The US has a very good health system for those who can afford it. If one is poor or middle class and without adequate health insurance, one will not get proper treatment.
We have imported the US suburbs because of previously low gas prices. Now that the price of gas is going higher, the suburbs are not a place to raise a family unless there are businesses to support those suburbs. The US suburbs will become the new poor "banlieues."
