Wordpress seems to work for Mcleans.
But I hate the way they treat the individual posters (Kady, Wells etc) like aggregators. You have to hit "read more" for virtually all their posts.
If there is an option - lets see the whole post when we click, (please).

Wordpress is good from what buddies of mine have said, but you can't add any html stuff on the side. They are trying to keep spam and other problems from invading but it just means that your blog will be pretty plain. No blogroll, no videos, no nothing.

That said RT, I've never heard anyone complain about typepad. It really really rocks. It does cost money, but not much?

Thanks for the advice. I thought about Typepad, but it seemed comparable to Wordpress for the most part. Hadn’t heard of Squarespace though. On the whole, Wordpress seemed like less hassle. Plus, being free doesn’t hurt. I don’t like the restrictions they place on embedding media files and, as you noted, the limitations on code that can go in the sidebar. Oh well. I’ll just have to work around that. What I do like are the site management tools behind the scenes — it gives you a greater feeling of control than is the case with Blogger.

Believe me Tomm, I’m not that geeky. Most of techie computer stuff bores the hell out of me. Not much chance of someone like me ever stumbling onto the next Google or YouTube, I’m afraid.
