Talking points, conflation, doublespeak, & buzzwording are all symptomatic of "fascism of the mind."
As I have been saying all along ...

No fool he. Just imagine how the quality of political debate and analysis would soar if we made the use of any of the following terms an indictable offence for two years (definitely a non-exclusive list).
From the Right: Appeaser, Christophobe, relativist, terrorist-enabler, statist, anti-Western, anti-Semite, libertine, self-hater, neo-marxist, anti-people, anti-life, baby-killer, etc.
From the Left: Chicken-hawk, neo-con, theocrat, Canada-hating continentalist, cultural genocide, homophobe, misogynist, racist, crusader, Zionist, Western chauvinist, science denier, etc.
And from both: Nazi & "What a lying %@#*&$* douchebag!"

Quite so. I'll admit to falling into the lazy trap of using rather trite epithets to describe those with whom I disagree — a bad habit, but almost unavoidable sometimes.
But back to Tweety... It would sure be nice to see more journalists and pundits call out their interview subjects the way Matthews did (rather uncharacteristically) the other night.

Nice dodge you're pulling there, Peter. Trying to establish an equivalency of meaningless discourse with no evidence or any examples whatsoever.
It's vanishingly rare for anyone to make, lightly, the accusations you claim characterise the Left (when none of those things are actually 'left') and if you're suggesting those things don't even exist, you're unconscious.
I'm really trying to figure out where you're coming from; you seem affable enough, but you're quite often focussed on stopping debate, rather than encouraging one by participating in it meaningfully.

Geez, Ti-Guy, just as I was resigned to your diagnosing me psychologically, I discover you now want to be my spiritual advisor as well. Will no one rid me of this meddlesome priest!!??
I have a neighbour like you, Ti-Guy. We get along very well, take care of each other's cats, share flower expenses, built a fence to-gether, etc. He's perpetualy confused as to whether he's NDP, Liberal, PQ or Green (and he wants me to travel each step of his angst with him), but he knows I'm CPC. But we can't talk about it much because, even though I'm always game for a good political rhubarb, he gets that wary, panicky look that suggests he fears he is dealing with one suffering from a serious emotional disorders or trying to thwart the inevitable march of history. You can see the cerebral gears grinding--how can someone so affable be so...whatever? My favourite moment in this little play was the look on his face when we invited the gay couple across the street that don't like him over for burgers.
What is it with you progressives? Why can't you accept that there are people as thoughtful as you who think you are wrong ?

Wrong about what? What am I wrong about? Seriously, I'd like to know...I'd really, really really like to know.

"if we made the use of any of the following terms an indictable offence"
it's a beautiful, the destruction of words.
"...& 'What a lying %@#*&$* douchebag!'"
from my cold, dead hands.

Peter:
...the quality of political debate and analysis would soar if we made the use of any of the following terms an indictable offence...
Would we not want to confine the offence to the incorrect use of those terms, or do you not believe that they can ever be accurately employed?
For myself, I must say solemnly that, if Mark Steyn is neither Canada-hating nor continentalist, I'm a Turkish Delight.
...we invited the gay couple across the street...over for burgers.
So, how does John Baird like his burgers? I'm thinking raw, but, being perhaps more polished than appearances suggest, he might conceivably take them rare...

On the subject of sweet, I swear O'Reilly is three sheets to the wind in this attempt to make light of his you tube meltdown.

SF — If Baird eats burgers, they're of the veggie kind. You wouldn't guess from his corpulence, but he's a vegetarian. Apparently.

Hank — I wonder if someone slowed down than tape a wee bit. His speech does sound a little slurred.
If the truth be known, Bill's probably quite pleased with that tape surfacing on the Net. He hasn't had so much attention from network TV in ages. Plus, it likely helped his show's ratings and that's what he's most concerned about.

Slightly off topic, but I  Rachel Maddow. She's the only one left on AAR worth listening to and she really deserves her own TV show.
Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Isn't she a sweetie?
I've always really liked Maddow. She's so sharp and incisive. As well, she can be quite cutting without being strident or obnoxious — not an easy trick.

Sure they can, that's why I said two years, not forever.
