Your thoughts weigh heavily

You know I'm a huge Graceland fan. We bought it when I was a kid, and I remember listening to the tape, backwards and forwards, on the trip home from this family reunion in western Michigan. There were also these cookies that had little chomp shapes in them and were purportedly all tested by some kind of cookie monsters (not *the* Cookie Monster). And the wonderful blast of air conditioning that was gained by sitting in the front seat on the way home (Grandma left with another of Mom's sisters on the drive home, I think). Just a very, very vivid picture in my head for that whole album. Songs often do that to me, but rarely albums as a whole.

Oh, plus Ladysmith Black Mambazo, of course. Amazing. The beginning of the record, too, with "The Boy in the Bubble," so cool. I don't know. I just love that album. Thanks for this post.

Gravatar Oh, sad, but sweet story...watching Paul Simon now

Gravatar As a curious aside, I was actually musing a blog meme over the weekend called "The Best Album You Probably Don't Own" - but you apparently read my mind.
