Headquarter are out to kill off the clerks.

the clerks are an endangered species.first the APPS now the modified 100. The OT whores of the NPMHU have won another battle. The APWU sits idly by, pointing to how they are protecting us from being forced to work OT, with our 60 hour limits and v-time provisions. well, have fun Mr. and Ms. Mailhandler with your 16 hour days and 7 days a week.

Jealous are we Mr.APWU sucks? NPMHU wins yet another one from APWU.

The reason they use mailhandlers is that there is no intelligence needed to load and prep mail. Any idiot could do it, even a trained monkey.

The reason is MH's are paid less with no V time so we'll eek,eek all the way to the bank

The Unions need to merge.

divide is what management does best!!! CLERKS VS MAILHANDLERS...
CLERKS VS CARRIERS....
CARRIERS VS RURAL CARRIERS

FOUR UNIONS IN ONE SHOP!!!
DIVIDED AT THE ONSET.

AND THE UNION IS THE MEMBERSHIP!!!
HOW MANY GO TO UNION MEETINGS?

STEWARDS AND E-BOARD MEMBERS!!!

SHAME ON ALL WHO FIGHT AMONG THEIR FELLOW UNIONISTS.

SAD DAYS!!!

Do the clerks want to give away any more work to us?

>>Do the clerks want to give away any more work to us?

there's nothing left to give!!

APWU will file a Step 4 grievance. So its not set in stone as yet.

At Tampa PO the clerks do EVERYTHING in automation. They load, sweep, put the trays in the cages, take the cages to dispatch, etc. The mailhandlers DO NOTHING on this operation. Sometimes if the clerks are lucky the mailhandlers will actually bring the caged mail to be worked to the machine. This will never change as long as the management lets it happen. The APWU does NOTHING about it!

At my faciltiy we have 2 mailhandler bids for "mail runners" in automation, but every day 2 clerks get assigned to perform these duties while the mailhandlers are assign to other areas. Go figure.

Maybe the mailhandlers should try to go after the supervisor positions, who knows, as imcompetent as our postal managers are, they might just award the supervisor positions to the mailhandler craft.

T-Bone in the House

It should all be one union. We should not be fighting each other.

once again our out of touch, retired APWU leaders in Washington drop the ball...time for them to go

Yea it will go to step 4 but it wont be heard in arbitration until we are all well into retirement. Meke it easy clerks can sell the stamps and MH's do everything else

The clerks are done, stick us with a fork. Or should I say a stamp??? All future jobs will be mailhandler. Level 4 all the way.

Another job bites the dust and another jobs gone and and another jobs gone another job bites the dust...

I want more overtime so I can feed my "Lapdance Fetish"! I also likey "Warm Beer" & "Cold Women"!

I have read all the comments and you all should be ashamed of yourselfs. Dont you get it, the bearucrats and politicians are just waiting for the chance to privatize YOUR job no matter who you are clerk, mailhandler carrier or the employee who couldnt make the craft no a stupidvisor with no back bone. They love this distraction while stealing the service this nation has enjoyed for years and cant wait to get their crummy hands on the profits and destroy this service ( the best government service in the world at no taxpayers cost) better pull together or you will just like the pilots/factory workers in this country under employeed or unemplooooooyed and fall, while they laugh all the way to the islands.

burass is a senile old fart. Resign in disgrace and get it over with already.

The bum is an embrassment!

In my plant this will be good as the mailhandlers do most of the work anyway, while the clerks stand around the rapper music box laughing, giggling, & back stabbing their fellow clerks all through the night led by their anti-union expeditor. Don't ask a clerk to do some work - that would be prejudicial.

This is why the buyout by 2015 will be CLERKS ONLY.

2015?I would be inclined to think no later than 2008,as the CSRS last year before FERS was 1983.

No buyout-- just become a MH on the dock. 2 years salary protection, with restrictions.

Several steps among many; The context is already set. How many facilities continue see rehired/new casusals. Why is this? Magnificent cost savings. The private sector has tremendous resources, they want this bakery, $#@%^$%^$# the damn pie/cake/bread.

Whether NALC/NPMH/APWU,crafts, all are basically working class employees with crazy commonalities. Divide and rconquer, it remains the same.

Assault on bargaining unit employees will continue across the board ie.,NALC/NPMH/APWU.

NOW IS THE TIME TO RE-MERGE ALL BARGAININING UNIT UNIONS, IN THE INTEREST OF PRESERVING WORKING CLASS EMPLOYEES ACROSS THE BOARD.

HEY ALL YOU MEMBERS/NON0MEMBERS TAKE/TURN THE PRESSURE ON YOUR RESPECTIVE UNIONS/LEADERS AND MAKE THEM THE ONLY NEXT CORRECT THING.

Yeah! Baby!

Thats the way I like it!

I have to go to work now! I'm working 13 hours a day 7 days a week. Heres a $10 tip!

Bill ( the whore Mailhandler), goes back to work watching all the "Clerks" do the work that he's supposed to be doing, and then its back to "Lapdance City' for some well deserved R&R!

Hey Vern, hope this keeps you rolling in OT in Salem!

after all is said and done, where are all the displaced employees to go?

bah/phoenix,your answer-Mcdonalds,Walmart,carwashes,strip clubs.

These jobs are backbreaker jobs that Clerks presently don't even want. Let the Mailhandlers have them and hope for an early out in the next 5 years for Clerks.

The USPS is developing new equipment that will utilize mailhandlers. Mailhandlers are level 4 with no penalty OTprovisions. Clerks are level 5 that are eligible for "V" time. The NPMHU has a better relationship with the USPS (less greivances) than the APWU. In my facility mailhandlers have better bids than clerks. All the clerk bids are on tour 3 or tour 1. You better make a move before its too late!

Mail Handlers and clerks better wisen up. The maint. craft is the craft to be in. Not only can we fix the machinery but we also can repair it. Which none of you can. If management ever got smart, they would only hire operators that can fix the machine quickly. With so much automation going on it is only a matter of time when the maintenance craft rules the P.O.

APWU has been known as a "throw shit against the wall and see if any sticks" Union for years, since Uncle Moe was around. They just keep losing, and losing......

Gravatar The next generation of machines will be leased with maintenance included [private].Sorry ET's You are next. Looks like Mailhandlers and Machines are the future of the USPS.Remember when Mailprocessor came up for craft assignment. Machines was designed for monkeys not skilled craft. Clerk union under bid Mailhandlers and was awarded the work {level 4}. Mailhandlers { level 5}. USPS went for cheap. They could revisit that decision. If there are no clerks who would the Mailhandlers merge with?

Gravatar ET=Glorified belt changer who is never available when needed or moves too damn slow when available. Contract maintenance tasks out now.

Gravatar Don't worry. We are one of the first facilities to get these pieces of junk. When the slug mailhandlers start running these machines, the productivity will hit the skids. Then, the mail will have to be worked manually by clerks in the Transit operation. Lots of clerk craft OT.

Gravatar Best argument is to have one union..closed shop! True maintenance can fix the junk we have but most of the time there are no parts or you have to take down one machine to run another. How many facilities have mechanical graveyards in them? Some places look like a sad ass autoshop! go figure! Eventually everything will be contracted out.

Gravatar SBP, You are probably on to something, research the GAT. The mailhandlers aren't safe, they are just delusional. Sacks are being designated for destruction in the MTSC's. What is going on in Boston with the AMF's and mailhandlers? Look at the UPS lawsuit against Canada Post. The carriers are in the crosshairs with the new machine due in the next year. Management is nibbling away at the larger unions and soon there will be just one small insignificant pipsqueak union, the mailhandlers. What does LIUNA care about them now that money making mailhandlers heath plan is crap and on it's way out?

Gravatar i cant believe the union didnt win this one, automation no matter what form belongs to clerks supoosedly, apwu sucks.

Gravatar >>Mail Handlers and clerks better wisen up. The maint. craft is the craft to be in. Not only can we fix the machinery but we also can repair it.

Gravatar To the poster above. Not only can we fix the machinery but we can repair it. You must be a et. Dumb as a wall.

Gravatar Whats this Screwdriver for?

Gravatar It's a shame that no one cares about the job. They only care about the money.Thats why USPS is going full bore to automation. They are slowly removing the skilled work from all crafts.Clerks lost LSM to OCR,881 to the afsm100.The letter carrier sorting to DPS.They took the bum work from the MH and contracted it out.The took the marks and made the AFCS.The automated takeaway system. They lower the skill, then lower the pay level. That 13 hr day will become a 8 hours day when Management requires the 100 to run 15000 an hr.no mre 30 minute breaks while emply carts are waiting to be filled. When the next MOd comes to the 100's it will be the $8.00 casual that will have the work. If we as postal workers don't look beyond our OT and petty bullshit.the only lap dance you'll be getting is from the guy in front of you in the unemployment line. Just remember the USPS employees the largest UNSKILLED work force in the U.S do you think that was by accident.

Gravatar By the way just a note. The APWU didn't loose this.Management went down the cheap road.If the clerks were paid less then it would be the clerks.Management hires casuals to off set the cost untill their required to pay.this is no different.they'll pay the MH untill their told otherwise.I'm just glad that i have a union and contract that gives me a job, and a pay check. Can anyone say FORD or KRAFT.
ask them what they think about our system.better than unemployment.

Gravatar So exactly why should I remain a clerk?

I can go into the mail handlers and get converted to full time twice as fast as in the clerks and I can get all the ot I want cause theres no penalty. Who gives a damn about penalty anyway.Id rather have the ot. Screw the clerks. Mail Handlers will have more jobs and more ot. My cousin works in Mich and she says they are excessing clerks into the mail handler craft where she is.

So...my question was...why should I stay a clerk in a worthless union like apwu?

They lost the apps...they lost the lcts and now they lost the lcth. When flat sequencing comes and by the end of 2007 they will have lost everything! In my office the apwu says they are filing grievances but also tell you that it will take a long time! Im tired of paying dues to a bunch of losers!

Can I volunteer to be excessed to a mail handler?

Gravatar it rolls down hill - You are correct! USPS cannot afford to pay high wages for UNSKILLED employees. The only skilled left are the ETs and they may see future generation automation purchased with a maint contract. Clerks had to be phased out after there was no need for scheme knowlege, 25 years ago was the wakeup call. Priced right out of a job.

Gravatar YOU MAILHANDLERS ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN!
NOW THAT THEY PASSED THIS POSTAL REFORM BILL, IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME!
YOU ARE NEXT!!!!!

Gravatar Make mine with "Sausage & Mushrooms"! You dumb clerks do all the work and we mailhandlers win all the grievences, which I spend on Lap dances and pizza parties. I may be unskilled but I got plenty of cash!
If we all lose our jobs, there will always be "Wendys", Drive Thru, of course!
Wal-Mart will be my second choice. I like there Avacodos!

Gravatar It boils down to---YOU ARE ALL GONNA GET IT IN THE END--JUST BEND OVER AND WAIT YOUR TURN.

Gravatar I read the comments and I feel sorry for some of you selfish individuals. How can you criticize the APWU when you have benefits unlike any other union? We all should be grateful that we are still employed. Employees are quick to blame the union when in fact it is the postal service that is making the decisions. Then there's Bush that a lot of postal employees voted for. Mailhandlers might think they have it made but its just a matter of time for them also to be hit. how long will the postal service pay them $20.00 a hour to prep and containerize and move cages? wake up people and band together and support your union. Point the finger at the postal service. Divide and conquer is their goal.

Gravatar I tried management in 1992 and they let us in on the long term plans of the USPS. The plan has always been to reduce staffing by as many as 300,000 employees. What we are seeing is the result of actual planning by the Postal Service. The unions have a toe hold on reality at best and by the time they react, the fight will be over. The unions should have been fighting for everyone together a long time ago but positions are so entrenched, we don't stand much of a chance. Anyone with eyes can see the end of this kind of work. Personally, I don't think its that bad. The jobs suck, the management sucks and the unions suck. All anyone gets out of these jobs is a pension and a ruined body.

Gravatar The PO has about two more years, then kiss it goodbye. The maintenence craft WILL be contracted out,the clerks will be minimal, and the mailhanders will get a dose of what the BOston AMF mailhandlers got.As far as carriers the Postal Kiosk concept is what you must watch for,as the bigwigs are going to claim this qualifies for universal service.People will have to go to box section like facilities to pick up their mail.

Gravatar So exactly why should I remain a clerk:

Your point is well taken. I was a PTF clerk since 1999. In 2003 I switched over to the mailhandler side and am now a full-time level 5 mailhandler while my co-workers on the clerk side that started with me are still PTFS being sent home with less than 40 per week.

I made a good move and suggest everyone else make the same move! NOW!

Gravatar Its time all you dope smokers wake up to whats going on! The Postal service is heading for privatization wether we like it or not. Mr Potter will see to that. He's had FED Ex in his back pocket for years along with some of the big mailing companies. Look at who testified at the hearings against us.Fed Ex is the biggest contractor we have. The consolidation of all the plants across the US makes it easier for a take over.As for the snail handlers you are deffinitely next on the hit list so enjoy while you can.

Gravatar Didn't anyone see the "fully-automated"
post office they have in Florida?
It's only a matter of time for you mailhandlers also! Maintenance is the ONLY WAY to go!

Gravatar APWU sucks!

Gravatar it rolls down hill said it best. The PO is looking to kill its labor costs while craft employees are still looking for overtime. No one seems to get it...the service is going to cut unneccesary costs like ot and reduce sick leave usage. People will continue to bitch about the Union but the Service will continue ahead with it plans no matter. You can only defend unskilled labor but for so long....wake up!

Gravatar Anyone notice that all 4 contracts ( APWU, Mailhandlers, Nalc, and Rurals) all expire this November think this was an accident, I don't. Management is going for it this time.

Gravatar Wow,such language. Merge Unions? Never happen, Burris, Hegarty et al will never give up their positions. USPS downsizing? OH yeah, wait until the Automatice feeder on the DBCS comes. Clerks will mostly be at Stations and Branches with Maintenance, Motor Vehicles/Contract Drivers and MailHandlers in the P&DF. It's time to PREPARE. Merging the Unions is a great idea, the postal service fears this most. Can we make it happen? Or will we wait until they automate so many facilities, we'll all be excessed into nothingness? My bet is as mismanaged as most may believe the USPS is, the Unions are even more mismanaged. Why would UNIONS fight to take work from another union???? Because they have no idea what TRUE UNIONISM Is!!

Gravatar I believe the term stated above should be TRUE UNIONISM WAS. Pre-automation APWU ran the USPS, all they had to do was do a work slow down, and management would fold everytime. Now with automation what "Bargaining" power does APWU have? At least NALC can still play the slow down route on delivery, they still have "Bargaining" power. Mailhandlers, certainly have more than APWU but not more than NALC. Next contract negotiations will all but close shop for APWU. They loss managements respect years ago. I can see where APWU would want to merge, alone they have no "bagaining power".

Gravatar Yeah! Togetherness, you have got to be kidding. That would truly make us a real POSTAL WORKER'S UNION but this would never happen. Greed is keeping us apart. In the 1970's it was an advantage to separate but in 2006 and beyond, it is necessary to come together. Beware Mailhandlers, your job can be replaced by the Casuals. How would your Union fight the use of Casuals when they are already being used in the position?
Help yourselves - fight to eliminate the Casual employee before your craft takes over.
The enemy is Management, not the Crafts - This is the Willie Lynch syndrom over and over again. Divide and conquer.

Gravatar Anither job the Mailhandmers get and don't want to do

Gravatar This Postal Reform Bill-Will place every employee-on Shaky ground !
Automation & contract workers are in there future crystal ball. They don't want quality, dedication, or Loyality-they Want Cheap, cheap labor!

Looks at how many Cellphones-what happened to the Home phone, pay phone?

There all becoming extinct-Just like us as employee's are-No Matter what craft you work in!

Gravatar Oh you mailhandlers can gloat all you want, but once your on these machines and have to finally work for your pay you'll be crying the blues. Just remember these machines have lights that go off up at the supervisors station that shows if your prep station isn't feeding mail into the machine so you can't run off and sleep like you used to. They designed this machine on purpose for the mailhandler craft, knowing they have to cut costs, their only way was to give it to a lower level pay, but when designing it they knew the reputation and work ethics of that lower level employee, thus they put in all these lights and whistles to go off if the prepper isn't keeping up with the speeds they set. Have fun keeping up with the machine mailhandlers--now you will see how management badgers the clerks all the time to keep your machine running, ledge/container loaded, etc. Of course there is no jogger on this machine that management can harass you about--yet! You mailhandlers will be awful tired working your 16 hour days without your 8 hour naps. Gloat all you want--you'll see what it's like to have to work for a living now.

Gravatar career clerks as of dec. 2005 is 213774
career mailhandlers as of dec. 2005 is 53690
let merge unions and have 267464 strong union. NO V-TIME TOO

SUPER CLERK

Gravatar HEY CLARICE TORRENCE PLEASE GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF MANAGEMENTS ASS AND PROTECT OUR JOBS..... BY THE WAY YOU LOST MY VOTE

Gravatar The facts in my office speaks for itself:

Senior PTF Clerk-Seniority date 3-7-99
Senior PTF MH-Seniority date 1-23-05

2005 Avg gross of Clerk on OT= $55,500
2005 Avg gross of MH on OT = $95,492

So class, let us revu :

PTFS on the MH side are converted to FT faster than clerks and they make more $ to boot!

Do the math fools!

Gravatar Forget about it..manpower will take over for the entire workforce! The Union has not stopped this yet! They have infiltrated the facilities for the past 2 years and where are the National Unions?

Gravatar USPS Assigns Jurisdiction For ‘Enhanced’ AFSM-100 Machines

APWU Web News Article #10-06, Feb. 14, 2006

The USPS has assigned craft jurisdiction for staffing on the Automated Flat Sorting Machine 100 (AFSM-100) with Automated Induction (AI) and Automatic Tray Handling (ATHS) system enhancements, awarding most of the positions to the Mail Handler Craft.

The APWU believes that the duties associated with AI and ATHS enhancements on the AFSM 100s are Clerk Craft duties, and has filed a national-level dispute claiming jurisdiction over this work.

http://apwu.org/news/webart/2006...tion- 060214.htm

Gravatar APWU & NPOMH join forces? You serious? Just read this off the 21Century Postal Worker website:

The hits just keep on coming! The Postal Service gives more and more to the friggin' Mail Handlers and they love it. They love it so much that when we file grievances over work that is ours they cry, cry, cry... then say something like "fine, that's how you want it?" Yeah! that's how we want it. Enough of this "You scratch my back... and I will scratch yours." It's happening right here in this plant. I've seen enough of this "buddy" business. We as Clerks have to look out for "each other" because that's how everyone else plays it. Believe me when I say, "I am one pissed off Clerk!"

This sound like somebody willing to sing Koombayah with the mail handlers?
The sharks in the water taste blood from the clerk craft and are circling for the kill!

Personally, what needs to happen is that the MVS & Maintenance need to break off from APWU and the remaining clerk union then needs to merge with the mail handlers!

Gravatar Hey mail handlers at least we are paid at the level five rate to work the same machine youre going to work on at level 4.dumbass

Gravatar Actually I beleive the term is the machine you were working at level 5. Now you can transfer to the MH craft become a PTF lose all your seniority and get paid level 4. Or what to be excessed and again lose all your seniority. Great job Burrass getting the level 5 and losing the work

Gravatar It may be tough but APWU can still win the appeal on not only the 100's but also the APPS. Also, before any Clerk transfers to Mailhandler, you should consider transferring to Custodial or Maintenance. No PTF waiting periods and you still get V time so you won't have to work 70 hours a week to earn what you can working only 60.

Gravatar Just reading these comments from my fellow employees(?) explains why management has managed to divide and conquer the bargaining unit employees of every craft. What the hell are you wasting your time feuding with eachother for? While you gossip, bicker and act like a bunch of juvenile delinquents your jobs are gone. Then you will wonder what happened and whine and cry about it; and, of course, blame anyone else but yourselves for it. I have seen employees so eager to impress the supervisors that they work off the clock, skip their lunch and breaks, rat on eachother, whatever.
The epitome of immaturity and selfishness. Unreal! I am so glad I am able to retire and never have to deal with you sniveling babies anymore.
It doesn't take a genius to do our jobs people; just read these idiot comments of yours and it is obvious.

Gravatar Excellent post uspsvictim.

Gravatar Why should not our jobs go bye bye. They are outsourcing our ports to the Arabs-you think your sh.. dont stink?
They outsourced the southern border patrol to the corrupt Mexican govt-you think your sh.. dont stink?

They sent millions of factory jobs to China and India and you jerks still shop at Wal-Mart- you think your sh.. dont stink?

Ford and GM are going the way of the doo doo bird because you drive Toyota, Honda, and Nissan-you think your sh.. dont stink?

Yes it will happen to you morons-smell the coffee! YOU let it happen.

Gravatar the apwu will dp nothing again--thats the usual--worthless as tits on abull--we work through the UPS strike maske billions for the PO ups comes off strike to a over 10% raise and we get 1.2%--wheres the money go??
the apwu and management are so far up eachother ass its not even funny.
I am ashamed to tell people I am a postal employee.
