Excellant plan by our Mgmt team. Lets get moving as fast as we can on this and put as much automation in place as possible eliminate all the dead wood. Philly is loosing 700+ jobs due to this happening. What savings, I may get my pension in 17 years after all. GO USPS!
If you know how the mail is delivered you would see that all they are doing is changing the names of what your plant will be called.
The infrastructue will not be change. Yeah the diagram of the mail flow loks simplified so yeah it must be easier and cost effective. what you are not seeing is the fact that you r maill will be going to not just one regional distribution center before it gets tpo the destinaion center. It is going to take the same route but you they are just m=naming the facility a different name. The F'ed up part is that we have people who will buy into this mind set and say this is wonderful.It changes nothing except for the fact that know they will have a way to justify the closing of offices and building a Regional, or what ever they are calling it, office and show the world that the wheel is now round. It is frustrating to know that these idiots are in charge of my future.
It will also give them a chance to make some supervisor positions with new names so they don't have to get rid of any supervisors dispite having less clerks. Same job, new title.....step right up. Sounds like a good time for system wide early out offer.

So, let me get this right...USPS met with APWU and introduced them to the END. Did APWU know that the END was coming? And if they knew the END was coming...when did they know and what were they going to do about it?
I anticipate the mail handlr craft will increase to about 70,000 nationwide. There will be massive excessing of clerks both out of installations and across crafts. The smart ones are now going into maintenance & mail handlr. This will all take place late 2006 and by the time flat sequencing is in by mid-2008 it'll all be over!

If I were an apwu member, I'd be proud to know that this year's convention will produce an END game plan.

midwest clerk you must not work on the fsm, if you did, that $20.00,is not even enough to cover pulling down two sides of the machine by yourself.
The Maintenance Craft at JFK has nothing to worry about . There should be a abundance of tray line poking positions available . Mile upon mile of tray line with hundreds of jam-up points . If I were a clerk I would check out changing to the maintenance craft .
Midwest Clerk - certainly there is a Mex out there that would do it w/o whining and for $12 and no bennies too. We also know he would do a great job and never call off.
Next contract we will see the end of the lay off clause. Many can say good bye to their jobs. Automation will contine to eliminate many jobs. Privatization is almost here. Time to clean house.

Santa Clarita PDC: I do work on the 100's and that is exactly my point. Letting the Mailhandlers bust their asses for less than a clerk to do the same work is fine with me. There are other Clerk jobs in the P.O. besides the 100's and I will get paid level 5 or 6 to do them. Also, unlike some on this forum I won't whine and blame everything on someone else, the union, etc.
Midwest Clerk overlooks the reality that the clerk union needs to retain all the AFSM 100 jobs possible to keep junior clerk employee's employed. Maybe the Midwest Clerk works out of Kansas Kaw Valley Area Local - the only non-union local in the country, where even the Executive Board is non-union.
Hey - did you see the approved AMP study? Looks like a lot of management are $79,997 a year employees. What a waste of money!!!

Bottom line is that the unions are unable to stop the loss of jobs due to automation. If that is what you are anticipating they will do-don't hold your breath and save that dues money for your gas.

Danville Clerks- Whether you or I like it, whether the union trades pins at the convention or not will not bring back Clerk work. Also, blaming the APWU for management's actions is like blaming the police for not stopping every single crime. The union has announced it is appealing the decision. This isn't an episode of "Bewitched" where Samantha Stevens wiggles her nose when something needs correcting. Any litigation takes time and the appeal of the FSM100 jobs and APPS jobs will take just that. Midwest Clerk- you must realize that work must not be given away to the Mailhandlers no matter how bad the job is-period!
