let me see 200 carriers that should mean 50 less supervisors are now needed; are they going to get relocated also or just sit around and keep the coffee shops opened?

All said and done it beats the hell out of not having a job like so many other workers in this country.

you answer as a clerk. BUT YOU SOUND LIKE MANAGEMENT!!!!!!

553 Philadelphia clerks/maintenances to be excess up to 500 miles when the move is made to the new P&DC. Our union was notified on Jan. 23, 2006.

hey phil clerk there is nothing on your web site!!!! are you lying???

We need help! We need help!. What are they supposed to absorb the postal workers not having work to do in NO. 6 months has been a reasonable amount of time. I would have been transferring right away. NO is not coming back as it once was. Quit dreaming!

No he is not lying, moving to new building and management has notified Union and craft that the excess relocation would be increased from 50 to 500 miles. APWU has pushed it under the carpet for now, both management and Union are hoping many clerks will retire and are doing all to make it happen.

It's in the apwu.org Central Region Impact Statements (updated Feb. 23, 2006), page 15.

50 supervisors hahahahah
try 4-5 the average large station carrier SCS has 40 carriers under him
no nasty jokes guys

po has started excessing in alot of offices all over the country.

Still whining! How about "no work, no job, get in your car and drive until you see a McDonalds with a hiring sign"? That is what the whiners deserve!

Ya I read the impact statement and the level of employees is not marked. I guess they don't know who is going to have to leave.

If you don't like it quit ! Tough shit go work at wall-mart

it so bad in N.O. that they have to have a party.
bull

why rebuild new orleans, next hurricane will wash it away again

Quit all of the crying. Who do you think your working for the Salvation Army. Everyone has a choice where you work or not. If you think the PO is such a terrible place to work QUIT!! Go and give out stickers at WalMart for all I care. I'M tired of all the crying and boo hooing. The last time I checked the PO did not come into your houses and force you to work for them. Everyone is so busy bashing management for running the PO into the ground what about all of the lazy dead beats that are supposed to be working the mail. If you would spend a little more time doing your job and a little less time whining about everything this would be a betterr place to work.

Only half the clerks espected to take the early out in N.O. actually did. Without cash incentives, early outs will fail to open enough jobs in any district. Expect excessing instead. Cheap post office

No EO, then get a RIF.

typical mgt I've got mine to hell with yours. postal mis-mgt family only cares about themselve. will not give a stratght answer don't bring me your personal problems to me I'm counting my bonus and planning for my pfp and the exra money I will get when I mive.

Typical scab reporter. He was probably a union rep in disguise. Should have put his sorry a$$ in jail.

Gravatar Again, well said Anonymous!!!!!

Gravatar Hey EB067, you're the whiner, your the baby, I wish for you for all this to happen to you, I'll bet you would really cry. Your are another one talking about someone you don't know and assuming something about another without knowing anything about the person. Sounds like a management type. How do I know this type? We just had a manager, who used to be a janitor, tell a carrier when he tried to lock the LLV door to make a delivery and it did not work, as instructed to do, I might add, was told to lock it from the the inside and climb across the tray and mail and get out and lock the other side door to make the delivery. I don't say passenger side because there is no such side as most would know. If the lock was broke, whatever side you locked it from would not matter anyway and what kind of safety would that be considered, climbing over everything. She said, "That's what I would do!" She just put in for a station managers job, but lost, they gave it to a guy who lost his house due to gambling and has several EEO compliants against him. This is the management of the Post Office where I am. It is and always will be this way, and always has been. If it were to stand on it's own merits, without the government protection and the monopoly that exists, it would never stand to make it. It is a company that chooses to make managers of those who just want to be managers and put in for it. It does not promote, but takes the applicants that want to manage. The company does not seek out it's best nor it's best qualified and experienced people. Janitors managing carriers and then putting in for station managers jobs. There is absolutely no knowledge of any relavance to the job whatsoever. It does not matter though, it's the Postal Service, we do what we want because we answer to no one. We are above the law, even the Constitution of the United States of America does not apply to us. FMLA laws, NTSB laws, Workers Compenstation laws, Tort law, we are immune to everything!! If management gets its way they'll turn the premier Postal Service in the world to a mere third world country postal service, then it will be over!!!!!

Gravatar Bob, Have you ever put in for a management position or are you just one of the people that sits back and whines about the ones who get them. You have the same opportunities that I have . If you just sit back waiting for someone to hand you something then shame on you. As for the so called BONUS that everyone bitches about management getting I received a whopping $300 for 2005. and this was my raise not a bonus. I guess that only craft employees are supposed to get raises. So as i said earlier if you think that the PO is such a bad place to work QUIT!! there is nothing stopping you from leaving and seeking other employment.

Gravatar But a single mother?Ship out the senior person if she is cute!

Gravatar P.O. is slowly but surely privatizing thanks to BUSH

Gravatar THE NEW CLERKS RATE CHARTS ARE ON APWU SITE I just noticed we were going to first get our COLA on march 4, but jan CPI was not released by 2-17-06 so it was pushed back 1 pay period until march 18. But when they figured out our raise they did 1.6% contract raise first , then add our 22 COLA IN. Should they take our 22.1139 ( sept. 3 2005 chart ) add .22 cent COLA FIRST, = 22.3339 X 1.6 % = 22.6912 instead of 22.6846( march 18, 2006 chart) says ????? it not ALOT OF $$ , BUT JUST THE FACT OF THE MATTER.

Gravatar SO THEY SAVED .22 CENTS TIMES 1.6% OR .00352 CENT TIMES 40 HOURS =.14 ( A WEEK ) SO ABOUT .14 A WEEK TIMES ALL US( 700,000 ) WILL SAVE USPS millions in long term. big bonus coming to who ever did it. HA HA

Gravatar hey ebo67 why should i bust my ass so mismanagement can get all the credit and bonus money and we get harrased everyday

Gravatar where i work once the mail gets counted towards thier bonus money numbers mismanagment lets the mail sit around till theres no room to put anymore then they want it out

Gravatar ebo67 I agree with you.nothing is going to change IN P.O..MISMANAGEMENTS AND SOME LAZY EMPLOYEES.DO WHAT YOU support to do and go home, have fun with family.stand up for your own and DON'T BACK STAB ONE ANOTHER.IF we all do what we support to,management can't mess with us.

Gravatar Management treats me bad, they get the same back from me. I play by their rules and win every time. Footdragging and sandbagging is not management's monoply! What can you expect from an organization that views its people as liabilities and not as assets? They are purposely hastening the turnover to the private sector. But I will retire before that happens. Then they will try to cut retirement pay and healthcare. Thank you, george bush and dick cheney.

Gravatar hey folks......

this would be a non story if the good old p.o. had a realistic transfer system.

ups and fed ex both have them.
your job is the same everywhere.
just geographically different.

maybe if the reporter of this story really took the time to do some investigating it would interesting.

Gravatar I agree with anon above. why is it management gets all the time in the world to relocate plus the post office gives them money and in some case's buy's their house's......
now that sounds like something a reporter should expose!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gravatar Attention all APWU members....

ABANDON SHIP !!!! I repeat ABANDON SHIP
Your on your way out of the PO, more power to the MAILHANDLERS...CHa CHIng all the way to a happy retirement with my millions from the PO.
AHHHhhhhh what a country

Gravatar This consolidation was in the works long before Katrina. The USPS is now using Katrina as the excuse. Corruption at its best.

Gravatar Gee I'm surprised the union didn't say early outs should only be for union members. On second thought I guess that might affect the income from dues. Union first means what again?

Gravatar Just get them off the payroll. Don't FORCE them to move, just fire them if they don't go.

Gravatar Bob,
If you don't like to work for corrupt, unqualified, inept, bungling management then you should just quit your job and go work at Walmart. You have the same opportunity to become a cheap, unethical, unscrupulous puppet just like the rest of us,and it is your own fault for not taking advantage of it.You sound like the type of person that has some sense of right and wrong.Well,we don't need anyone like that.We can get along just fine without the kind of person that thinks morality and abiity have any place in the postal service. You should just leave everything to us scheming little game players and go.We don't care if you are a good employee or not,we can use our pencils to make up for any lost productivity and add a little extra besides.Just move on and let us play the system our way.

Gravatar The bums there never worked anyway
