Great family photo!
and it is definitely a praying mantis - check out my Kiddo with one he found in our backyard: http://historicstitcher.blogspot...8/08/
signs.html
Click on the pic of him and it gets _really_ big! (You'll see then that she's looking intently at the camera. She leaped at it shortly after that pic!)

Your photographs are beautiful!! Yes, that is a praying mantis. My daughter caught two of them and put them in a bug cage, and asked if she could keep them overnight so that she could show her dad when he got home from work. I told her that she could just for one night and we'd release them in the morning. Well, the next day, there was only one praying mantis in the cage, and there was absolutely no way for them to escape, so we now know to never put two of them together for longer than a short time. I felt so bad for that poor praying mantis that went missing!!

Thanks for the family photo. It was great. Yes, that is a preying mantis.
Hope your over that nasty cold and feeling better soon. How's the new 'TADPOLE' doing?
Always wonderful to see you enjoying your family. The colours in the woods and up north are breathtaking now.

Reading Lisa's comment above....maybe they should be called preying mantis.
Luckily, yours was out sunning himself with nothing to gobble down in sight - maybe he had a full stomach already?
Great photos of the girls as usual, and a terrific family shot.
I know what you mean about the timer button...counting down....you're running to get in the shot and you're not quite ready when it goes off...I like the idea of a remote shutter control.
Now Claire will have a photo of her family with her.....I hope it works, it makes me sad to think of her being sad at school.

Great pictures! Even though I don't like snakes, I think the close-up snake picture is an awesome photo because of the shallow depth of field.
