Hmm. I can't say that my heroes have become more alpha lately - in fact, they've been a strange mixture of both. Maybe because that's what I want my ideal man in real life to be like.

I like alpha heroes to an extent. I like a strong, take-charge guy. However, I hate the alpha guy that is abusive toward the heroine and treats her like crap until the end of the book when "ta-da" he realizes he is in love with her and thus a miracle happens and he changes. I just never could buy into that lie. (Assholes stay assholes as I found out when I married one.) I guess that is why there are several big name authors I have never read.

Okay, the subject at hand... I do NOT like the Alphas who take over entirely, particularly in the bedroom. They make me angry. (guess I'm not a good submissive)
and yes, Amazon's still a dirty four-letter word. Always will be. I'm just bowing to the Almighty Dollar and a public perception that makes me into the weirdo again. Yep, I sold out.

Hmm, I wouldn't say so. My heroes always have some Alpha elements, but I don't find myself making them more so right now
Interesting observations, though

Rene, I'm not a writer but I really like your take on the popularity of the alpha hero being related to social turmoil in the world. Great article.

Interesting. I hadn't thought of this perspective--nice piece!
I can't say I see the same evolution in my characters but I can see the appeal.
