I really enjoyed The Accidental Demon Slayer and The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers by Angie Fox. They're paranormal romance and not really that dark. How can they be when the heroine's grandma is a witch in a biker gang? *g* And the heroine's dog talks.

The Midnight Disease by Alice Weaver Flarerty was fascinating. Nonfiction work about the neurology of writing. Interesting facts abound--bipolar disorder 10x more prevalent in the writing community than in the general public. 40x in poets. I didn't find the book too dense or laden with medical jargon.
1776 by David McCullough. Learn why George Washington was so awesome.
Anything by Christopher Moore is a hoot. His style is breezy.

Carl Hiasson's Basket Case was a great read for me as was The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaimon, of you like children's fiction at all.

My all time favorite book is Riddle-Master by Patricia McKillip. I love fantasy, and her books are always full of delicious layers. I also love Terry Pratchett.

True Evil by Greg Iles, who is excellent at characterization and plot. If you are interested in historical romance, The Spymaster's Lady is a delight.
