I went to seminary with Pastor Dawn, and have met Lionel at conventions. And I understand why they're taking this action.
My comment is not to comment. I would resent it if some other clergy stuck his/her nose into my ministry if we followed the path that was determined by the congregation seeking the direction of the Holy Spirit. We do some things here at LCGS that would be frowned upon by many of my more catholic colleagues (i,e, we make up our own liturgies).
I don't often comment on church politics on this blog, because, we Lutherans, we have a congregational polity. Whether pro or anti ssm/ssb, whether I agree with what a church/pastor is doing, I think that once a pastor/church gets involved in the affairs of another church, we slide down the slippery slope of greater centralization (already a problem within the ELCIC), which I think, is against our Lutheran tradition.
Silence, on this blog, equals neither consent or condemnation.
But I will say this: I wonder if what's happening at Holy Cross will expedite what some have said is an inevitability: that the ELCIC will split over this issue.

Thank you, Rev.P., I appreciate your response and would not expect you to take a public stance on another congregation in another district under another Bishop.

Love the Tom Waits.
Have you heard his "Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet?"

Peter,
Indeed. I first heard when I was studying composition. Wonderful piece. We used it a few years ago for Maundy Thursday as a prelude/background music as people were coming in for worship.
