Its indeed a day to be proud of...and I though our cause was a lost one with all the fruitless debates being held between equally omnivorous politicians without yielding any result what so ever. Dr Yunus's news was certainly a breath of fresh air
And he's from Chittagong and a classmate of my dad's from his day in Ctg College.

Great post, Rezwan. The whole world should be proud of Bangladesh and Dr.Yunus for creating such a powerful model to alleviate poverty. I feel so proud today, it's almost like I'm Bangladeshi as well.
Here's my post on the announcement today.

while we, the bloggers, were lauding about Dr. Yunus, I came across an article named 'Losing its lustre' from 'The Economists' defaming Dr. Yunus and Nobel Peace Prize. It seems to the writer doesn't hold any value. And It hurt me so much, not because of the write-up, but how a renowned magazine like 'The Economists' could publish this kind of writing. Here's the link of the article:

This is a unique time for you to loudly voice your opinion. This a historic moment for our nation. The Josephites, the Gregorians, the Notre Demians and others, remember how you studied, played video games, listened to western music, worked on your SAT, GMAT, GRE & TOEFL, thought of going to Ivy league. Then you left.
You dismayed at the political situation of the country. You had the disappointment of not being able to get involved. You saw criminals running your country. You became psychologically matured, physically better and financially wealthy. All that, but without that sense of belonging. Left out of the process. You see, you never joined the street protests with sticks in your hand. There is no way you would throw a bomb or shoot a gun at anyone, no matter what.
You would not cheat people or take public money. You would always try to present your country and its people in the positive light. You would not bad mouth your country to the world for political gains. Your financial contribution in terms of money or donations sent back to Bangladesh does more in any given year, than a rich and corrupt Pintu or Haji Selim does in a lifetime.
It is your time. Dr. Yunus wants you. It is your time to be heard. It's time for you to put you Ivy league brains to work for some real good. I say, don't miss it. We've got to get him in. We must take this opportunity to put his efforts into public welfare. Remember the hundreds of times, when you said, "If I were the government of Bangladesh, I would have......." Well, having the likes of Dr. Yunus, is your chance for voices of reasons to be heard. We need him.
There is no reason to believe it will harm us in any way. Rather, the potential for benefits could be enormous for our country and its people. Besides, he will have the following things will be on his side:
The intellectual powers of your educated brains.
The excellence of your professional experience, and
The benevolence of your patriotic heart.
Imagine what you and others like you can do for your country. This may be your ONLY call. I apologize if I seem emotional or over enthusiastic, but I think this matter is serious. If you lived the history of Bangladesh, you know, twenty years ago, this would have been the fantasy of fantacies for you - A nobel lauriet among you, asking for your support to clean out the trash and to give you a fresh start !
You MUST get involved. Don't let this opportunity slip away. Let this be our new beginning. Jump on board. You've got one life to live. Here comes a genuine opportunity for making a permanent contributions to the benefit of your countrymen.
