Enjoy reading your column,Mr. Moore. As a resident of the Washington metro area, I'm sorry you weren't able to visit the city when you were singing in Virginia in '03. While I don't recall the specific events you refer to, I would just advise that sometimes the rallies are billed as bigger than they really are. We attended a book festival on the National Mall one weekend of an anti-war rally. The projected throngs of protesters were not quite so large as forecast and we had a wonderful afternoon. Like you, I almost wasn't going to go into town but my kid (eight at the time) insisted. Were we going to miss hearing her "favorite author" speak? When the kid has a favorite author you have to make the effort, right. And mirculously I even found a parking space within a few blocks of our event! DC is a neat city (it's my hometown). I highly recommend the National Gallery of Art and the Insect Zoo inside the Museum of Natural History. Best wishes.

Thanks for writing, Aletha. I love DC and had a chance to spend five days there in 2005. We visited several of the Smithsonian museums and a variety of other places. If you look on the right sidebar you'll see a link to the "UnHolyCoast DC Tour" and can see where we visited.
