Oh, no, Rick. They're really smart calling for this. See, they could get into trouble if one of their fraternities does something stupid and illegal resulting in death. It might make the news and the college would look bad. :]

Though I'd tend to agree with this argument in theory on the basis that someone 18 years old can vote, but not drink? Makes no sense. Either you're an adult at 18 or 21.

I agree with Mrs. C. on this one. If you are 18 you are an adult. You can serve in combat, get married (but I repeat myself), vote and legally enter contracts. So why should 18 year olds not be given full citizenship rights?

Some of them will make poor choices but that will happen anyway. Some of them will make better choices if they are allowed to drink openly. Colleges can have social events on campus and they can provide transportation to entertainment establishments.

I really don't see any argument you can make against 18 year olds having the right to drink that is not based on the theory that you want to ban an entire group from a behavior because some members of that group will have a negative outcome.

I would favor tougher drunk driving laws whether the legal drinking age is changed or not though.

Oh, yeah. Make the drunk driving laws so tough no one will even think about it. THEN ENFORCE 'EM. Yup.

Well, if 16 year olds are mature enough to drive a multi-ton weapon, shouldn't they also be allowed to join the military, vote, etc?

I think there needs to be some consistency here.

Considering as how the legal drinking limit used to be 18, I don't have an issue with it being lowered back to 18. Considering as how in European nations children are raised drinking, and considering how they have far fewer issues with alcoholism than the U.S. does, then perhaps lowering the age limit to a time frame when the kids are still in an environment where parents can provide guidance, might not be a bad idea.

I read your post for the first time. I sure did laugh, about the giving them all A's.

Blog says regarding the age shift from 21 to 18 for drinking .I do agree that it is right scientifically, but before implementing we should think that are we
following strictly the existing age has been a rule? The answer would be NO.So Better If you think how the age shift going to affect
the society
