We have 6 children, the oldest of whom was in government schools when we started home schooling (the rest were pre-schoolers). The one and only thing mentioned by all of the oldest child's teachers when we told them we were going to home school? Their concern about the "lack of social contact" for this child. At no point did any of them express a concern that he would be academically disadvantaged-apparently they knew better. |

I have volunteered a few hours for a local homeschool organization (through my former church) and have friends and acquaintances in that and another organization. I think there is a misconception that homeschooled kids are not taught outside their home and therefore rarely have contact with other kids their age. I have found that is not true. |
