Hey! My dad used to be a Methodist! It's like we're separated at birth!
Seriously, though, excellent points. I love these from-the-heart rants this blog crowd is prone to on sexuality, and I hope it's a sign of the broader viewpoint of our generation.

GOOD POINTS! I wish more people thought like you. I've met too many people here that are incredibly closed-minded. I started believing the more religious people are, the more closed-minded they've become. Thank you for changing that!

hey, i'm a methodist too. but i come from the area of the country where we put a methodist pastor on trial. mind you, she wasn't on trial for being a lesbian. she was on trial for living like one. did they talk about that at all? i've had a rough time reconciling what i know to be an accepting church with the trial i read about in the newspapers.

Kate, the Washington minister was deffinitly discussed. It's actually a great case and was the event that stimulated me to check out how the Methodist church here was handling the debate. The church government acquitted the minister (a lesbian who has a young son with her partner). While it's not cool that she was brought to trial in the first place, what it does is force the church as a body across the nation to examine its stance on homosexuality. This is the time for it too, as just this week, the quadrennial United Methodist General Conference is meeting to make amendments to its constitution.
So, that log paragraph boils down to this: It sucks that this minister has had to go through this awful process of having her personal life be drug out in a church court (again, where is the love?!?!), but the wonderful liberals in Washington are forcing the church take steps it has been too cowardly to make.
