My request to remember the troops was not an insult of any sort - just what I hope everyone would do no matter what side of the political spectrum they stand on or how they feel about this war or any war.

I only requested it because as a serviceman who has been in harms way away from family on Christmas it was a great comfort to me to know that people I knew and did not know were taking time to enjoy the fruits of my effort and at least some of them were taking time to appreciate it by thinking of us.

If someone were opposed to the very nature of war, the immoral and unjust taking of life, how could you expect them to support our troops? I respect their willingness to sacrifice and to take action in order to acheive what they see as right, but I can never support someone who stoops to the level of our enemies by killing in order to acheive an goal. Further, if the citizens of Germany in the early 1940s had been opposed to the War, or any war, shouldn't they, by your logic, have thrown their support behind the Nazi troops?

Soldiers do not have a choice in the issues of thier nation.
You make the very poor assumption that soldiers serve by choice - they do not, they serve for thier country and leave it to civilians to make policy.
That is unless you -want- soldiers making policy, in that case you had better get ready for perpetual war, because that in the end is what a soldiers job is, war.
Take a moment and do the human thing 'take a moment out of your festivities to think of the troops' I would assume you would want them safe and healthy, and home - and that's not an issue of sides, that's an issue of humanity unless you have lost all of yours.

And you probably think you're being stinging with your parting question. Well, to be honest, the last time I spent this much time on the scene of the nativity was about two weeks ago, when I was doing research into "The DaVinci Code," (a fun, if horribly flawed, read by the way, if anybody's wondering) and got sidetracked.
Other than that? I don't even think about it during the Christmas season. I'm not a believer. I celebrate this holiday as a time to be with my family, not as a religious event. So all the backstory is kinda moot to me.

Your 'friends' are most ungracious, and your attack on me most unlady like but I never considered Texas one of the real antebellum states and it's history supports me.
My original post may have been humorless as suggested by Eric above, but it was in no way insulting. Certainly not as insulting as your response to it, or the lashings of your minnions.
If I recall you have some sort of history as an actress - try acting like a hostess to your guests and not insult them when they inquire about the sources of your decor, or offer well intended advice (even if it isn't needed).
