Gravatar Y'know, I don't think of the Brit soldier as a wimp. I don't agree with his views, obviously, but I can't call him a wimp.

He should have thought about the whole concept of 'war' and what it means to be a soldier (even a medic... perhaps ESPECIALLY a medic) BEFORE he joined up. Being oblivious doesn't make one a wimp; it makes you dumber than a box of hair.

So... not a wimp, but really really stupid. *shrug* Even if I agreed with his position, I'd think he was dumb. Fighting is the prime function of the military. If you're not ready to fight, and you're not on record as an objector, you should do your job.

Gravatar That "New Democrat" you cite is the vast majority of all Democrats when you look at Democrats nationwide. Unfortunately, Republicans have done a very good job of making it seem like the exremes are the norm (and the most liberal of Dems are the most shrill). It's a tried and true tactic, one which I am hesitant to advocate we use on Republicans because I consider it borderline dirty. However, Republicans often give us fodder on their wacky right flank as well ("gay Spongebob" flap being the most recent example). If Dean does what he says he is going to do (remains to be seen, but am hopeful), you will see Democrats turn the tide in the next few years starting with localities. The pendulum is always swinging in this country, and nobody remains in power forever.

Gravatar I agree that those democrats are more the norm, but I disagree that it is Republicans that make it seem that the extreme is the norm. The democrats do that very well on their own.

Gravatar Think about it. At least we agree with who we elect.
