Actually, looking at that pic of the people holding the posters - it's quite funny really, because the poster should read "I'm a Moron - can you tell?".
Leave them to their amazingly silly lives. If nothing else it looks like a nice a day ruined - and I thought I didn't have a life. lol

I swear, had I driven past this sorry lot of idiots there is no way I would have been able to pass the guy with the "Thank God for IED's" poster without punching him in the face.

I can't believe that there are people on the loose that don't have sense enough to respect a funeral, particularly a soldier's funeral. If you have an agenda to voice, this is the US and you have a right to speak your mind, but this is despicable behavior.
I was a college student and a soldier in the 70's and saw a lot of bad behavior directed at soldiers, but I never saw anyone disrespect a funeral. I guess our alpha hotels are looking for new heights of stupidity.
BTW, while traveling through Houston in Uniform in 1975, Texans bought me drinks at the airport. God bless Texas.

How tragically sad that they are using children; those little ones have no clue what they're protesting. :-(
Perhaps those protestors should spend some time writing letters of thanks for the freedom they are given by our men/women in uniform. The people they are protesting make it possible for them to be so obnoxiously vile.

These people are idiots. This so far beyond the pale that no words can describe my disgust.
God bless that soldier.
JD: You deserved those drinks. You risked your life for our country. God bless you and the military.

There was a time in this country when that kind of behaviour would be met with violence. Enthusiastically administered. Vigorously applied.
I've seen these "people" in the news before. I guess there is no penalty for what they're doing.
So, why is it that the further we move away from "barbaric behavior", the ruder and more uncaring we become as a society? Could good manners stem only from fear of getting your mouth slapped?

Good point, Tom. I think the civil "liberties" pendulum has swung too far to the left. At some point, behavior like this has to be addressed. This is unacceptable.

What they say is horrible, mean, nasty, and unpatriotic. They hate America. They are not Christians.
However, I cringe at the notion that they don't have the right to say what they say. That's a slippery slope and everybody knows that. Where does it end? We already have the PC thought police.
Just ignore them and they'll go away. Let natural selection take its course.

Exactly BinB, RWS these guys, particularly the sick "Rev" Phelps are just out there using your outrage to get attention for themselves and their sick beliefs. Let the marketplace of ideas run it's course and make them irrelevant. That's how freedom of speech works.
Ignoring them however will keep them off the map. They don't deserve any air time at all. Which is why I refuse to even comment on them in this forum. (anymore)

Certainly they should have the freedom to do crap like this. It's a free country, as they say.
HOWEVER, I should also have the freedom to pummel the holy living hell out of them for being total dickheads. It's my way of saying 'hey, i don't appreciate what you are doing here' - FREE SPEECH!

Stress is the feeling derived from restraining the overwhelming urge to pummel someone who desperately deserves it. Please remain stressed.
However, it would be nice to have these guys shouted down next time they show up...

THAT would be free speech BinB. That's what happens here in Germany actually. When the neo-Nazis come out to demonstrate, they are outnumbered 50 to one by the counter-demonstrators, in both noise and numbers. Thus, they are rendered irrelevant.
But, pummeling them as Xeno suggests will just end you up in the slammer with a horny sellmate named buba.
Free country - your choice.

*Hey, the price of a free society - an embarrassing one, but while we think they're stupid beyond belief - their actions give our freedom credibility. I'm not offended by them at all - I think they're funny, shame they don't dress up in some for of outfit and do tricks too.
If you get angry at that kind of stuff - there would be little hope left.
There's loads more other real things to be angry about than this rubbish.
The biggest mistake they made was getting their photos taken.

The best thing to do about these guys is not give them any press. Too bad the Blogosphere hasn't caught on to that yet.

I know that at one funeral in... Oregon?... the Fire Department showed up, along with the Police. The Police let Phelps and his group of slimebucket maggotbastards protest across the street from the church... and then signaled the fire trucks to move in to park directly in front of the protest site, blocking them from view (and most of the sound as well) from the church.
"It was time for our drills, we had no idea they'd be there," I recall reading one fireman say. Uh-huh. Sure. Funny how that worked, huh?
(the data was taken from http:www.indepundit.com, who doesn't have searchable archives, so I couldn't the exact linky.)

I couldn't disagree more (and aren't you surprised). The best thing to do, particularly for Christians, is point out that their behavior is disgraceful.
I haven't seen any positive coverage of them in the blogosphere, ever. Every blog I've ever seen cover this idiot Phelps pointed out precisely what an ass he is.
