I'm just really happy you made it out. It doesn't seem fair to happen to the people who did so much for the victims of Katrina.

The MSM seems suprised that there was a traffic jam out of Houston. Isn't there always a traffic jam in and out of Houston?
Now, if I could just here from brother & fam ...

Ironic that you mention sending fuel trucks RWS.
When I had family living in n.w. Pa I would see fuel trucks assisting on I-80, since I was not a native of the area I assumed that was normal, now that you mention it I wonder if it wasn't road rape or hi-way robbery. Back then gas was still around 1.40 a gallon, I can only wonder what was (is in your case) charged if you're stranded and need the fuel, I hate taking a dim veiw of those offering help, but it's an easy situation to take advantage of.

I have a friend whose niece lives in Houston and left yesterday at 10:30 a.m. By 6:30 p.m. (8 hours later) she called her mom and told her she STILL had not gotten out of the greater Houston area. Her mom said "turn around and just go back." So she did. What a nightmare. 8 hours sitting there bumper to bumper and then just to go back home.
And on Michelle Malkin's blog I hear that the looting has begun in Houston. These thugs make me sick. However, Houstonians still there ain't taking it lying down. I read where many have got guns and are patrolling their areas. Good for them.

dave bones,
That was funny!!
For you that don't know. I am at my Mom's. She has a dial up connection (UGH!) and it is so slow that I can't do much on the computer. (I'm not patient anymore)
dave,
regarding the fuel trucks. I know that before I left I saw officials on TV say that would NOT tolerate price gougeing for gas. And I have to say that none of the stations I saw that actually had gas had a jacked up price. Even the little station I found in the middle of nowhere didn't have it jacked up. So that was nice.
I got the impression that they weren't charging for the gas that the trucks were bringing out to the highway, but I can't be sure. But I will tell you one thing. I filled up everytime I saw a station after that episode. I am full now and plan on strapping a can to the back of my car for the ride back (which I do NOT want to think about..Ugh)

Dial up! I was housesitting for my sister last summer, & they have the WORST dial up. You could go to the kitchen & make a cup of tea in the time it takes to change screens. But glad you are okay. Was one of those tents on the median Pile On & family?

ha ha. Two little hurricaines and Texas turns Mad Max!
Tina Turners going to roll into town to bring justice to the petrol wars.
Good there is no price increase. In London on 7/7 the hotels doubled their prices!
Say hi to your mum or mom as you probably call her.

There where only several cases of looting that I heard reported, and in once instance, it was the SAME fool robbing the SAME gas station twice. The second time was in clear sight of a patrol car watching a pawn shop. Stupid is as stupid does..
People in Houston should NOT have evacuated. Only those that had medical conditions where advised to go. That is one of the biggest problems. People in Houston freakin out which made the evac harder for those south of us that NEED to evacuate.

JOeTx, If the Hurrican hadn't jogged east and hit Galveston straight on, then Houston would have sustained major damage. Jasper (just as far inland as north Houston) got heavy damage, with no electricity and no water. Still today, it's that way. Imagine all of Houston in that condition, which it would have been if not for the hurricane changing course at the last minute.
