Hear, hear, RWS.
We can't have too many with her courage nd calmness in the face of injustice and hatred.

YOu know what is sad though? She couldn't even afford rent as she got older. Luckily the landlord just stopped charging her rent. Hopefully he did it out of compassion and respect and not because of the backlash he would have recieved if he had evicted her.
How is it possible that she was so poor? Wasn't there anyone who could help her write about her experienes and try and make a living that way? Did no one pay her for her personal appearances? I know she was an aid in John Conyers office until she retired. And I know she certainly never lived large.
It just seems sad to me.

The N.A.A.C.P. is no longer commited to civil rights for blacks?
They have had some leadership issues involving sex scandals, but their core focus is the same. They have made great advancements in the last 35 years, but their work is no where near finished just because they lost the "support" of the moderate southern whites.
Which stance have they taken (not a quote from a speech by one person, but an actual position paper or formal political position) which you feel shows this organization is (1) no longer "commited to civil rights for blacks" or (2) a liberal leftwing democratic hack organization.

You mean like their ads accussing Bush of dragging a black man to death behind a pickup truck? Or are their ads just one man's speech?
How about their position against photo ID laws for voting. Just a civil rights issue? After all, black people should be expected to show ID before voting. It is so intimindating and all, which explains why they don't drink or smoke or cash checks or drive or rent movies at Blockbuster since getting a photo ID is so racist and all.
The NAACP is not about civil rights any longer. It is about party politics.
To argue otherwise is as ridiculous as a Republican saying Bush is a fiscal conservative.

Correction: After all, black people should NOT be expected to show ID before voting.

KJ is exactly right. Party politics is more important to them now than civil rights.

The NAACP, a once proud organization, was once deserving of respect. I think the leaders of the civil rights movement, living and dead must be disgusted witht ht ecurrent state of affairs. I am sure they still help some people, sometimes, but gone are the days when the organization was lead by people desrving of respect. As Dr. King once dreamed, I judge them by the conetn of their character, and I find them, lacking.
Much praise to Mrs. Parks, who showed incredible conviction in her stance to retain her dignity against overwhleming odds. Thanks to her courage and resolve and those of many of her bretheren, we live in a better world. Bigotry is certainly still present, but certainly minorities of all types have inherited a better world because of her sacrifice, praise God.

the conspiracy theory is that the NAACP, who was planning on suing the bus system anyway, but had a problem with the client they were using, decided to use Rosa Parks, who was working for them. In other words, it wasn't just a everyday woman who just up and decided she wasn't going to take it anymore.
But as I said, does that really matter?

If it doesn't matter, why did you even bring it up?!!

Because it's a big theory that has been around for while and it supposes that her protest wasn't a big deal. I was disputing that.
Geeze.

This is the first time I've ever heard about it.
Leave it to a right-wing blog to try to besmirch the legacy of Rosa Parks.

So "rightwing" means disparaging the name of a true heroine of the civil rights movement?
