Gravatar What year was that? mine was either 76 or 77 I can't remember lol

Gravatar Trying to figure out my age, are ya? Haven't I told you? I don't mind telling.

Lemme think though....it was 1980.

Gravatar All that time in paradise and "no lovers"? You must've flat drove those boys bonkers. I'll bet that boy took you swimming so much just to cool himself off!

Gravatar So sexist! Maybe I too had to cool off swimming, huh????....

I actually thought that would be the very FIRST comment. Heh.

Like I have said many times, I always had fun, but I wasn't stupid (no matter how "spongeworthy" they were)

Gravatar Oh, and spongeworthy,

Where are my resturant recommendations???

Gravatar Very well written! My wedding and honeymoon were both on the Big Island of Hawaii and it was really a beautiful place, just as you experienced. We saw black sand beaches, a volcano, lush waterfalls, banana plantations, and more. It was perfect!

Gravatar Yes you have come to think of it...
1980? ah the time of pop groups like Duran Duran and the Human League.

Gravatar Hi Rightwingsparkle,

Cool holidays,

We organize a blog contest on www.discover-internet.com

We invite you to see.

It would interest you & your summer passion

Bye

Gravatar Great Scott, woman! How many restaurants do you need? How much eating are you two planning on doing anyway? I gave you my secret spot for impressing cute babes from out of town.

In fact, why not let me take you two and further embellish my "What are those hot babes doing with that dork?" resume?

And while Midtown is not my strong suit, I can get you a few more recommendations. I just don't know what you like or, and this is important in NYC, what time you like to go out. Some places just can't get you out in time for a show unless you get there at 5:30 or 6:00, and not very many places are much to see at that hour.

Regardless, head down here and we'll hit the WTC site and have a pop and talk about dinner. S'alright?

Gravatar Say what?

Gravatar My best summer was back a couple of years or so out of college, and between jobs where I went most of the summer to Europe. (yes, by myself!)

I just bought a ticket and a Eurrail pass and went anywhere I wanted to. I literally would walk to the train station and look at where the trains were going and decide right then and there. Oh the freedom of it all!

My best memories were in Rome, where I met a shop owner (a nice gentleman who spoke perfect English and use to be a history professor) who was so excited to have an American to show off his city to (okay, he was pretty excited that I was a blond female too
that he took me all over Rome and the outskirts of the city and showed me things I would never have seen on my own or on a tour.

I'm telling ya, it was awesome. We were driving around Rome in his (this was so perfect!!) convertible Alpha Romeo (Italian car!!) listening to Italian opera music, while looking at the old Roman ruins, etc. etc. It was like something you picture in one of those Fellini movies. Or better yet all I needed was a scarf for my hair and some big sunglasses and I was Grace Kelly in "To Catch A Thief" (you get the picture)

I had other exciting experiences, but that one was just so memorable and special because of the "Italian-ness" of it all! One of the good things about that summer was that earlier that year some sort of terrorism had taken place somewhere in Europe (can't remember) but people were canceling their trips left and right. Europe was fairly empty that summer and everywhere I went (yes, even in France!!) people were so thankful to see you.

Sigh. Can I turn back time now, please?!

Gravatar Gosh, Jill -- why am I not surprised you're a blonde?

Too bad all of Europe hates our guts now. Thank your Boy George for that. European dreams are now the stuff of nostalgic movies. It was nice while it lasted, wasn't it?

Gravatar Oh I don't know, it's one thing to dislike what a Govt. is doing - it's very hard to dislike all of a country's people (except the french of course).
So Mirandarama if you go to Europe and walk about with the stars and stripes over your shoulder, yes you might get some grief - but if you turn up as yourself, ask questions and show interest you will still be more than welcome.

Can we do France next please Mr Bush - they really do have WMD's

LOL

Gravatar Jill,

How wonderful! I wish I could have done that. I didn't get to see Italy until a few years ago and it was just as wonderful as you described! And it's true what Simon said. People were VERY nice to us. I think they appreciate it when you at least TRY to speak some of their language.

Rome was amazing. Just amazing. I can't put into words how I felt there.

Gravatar One of the most awesome places (where I got chills) was in the prison of Peter & Paul. I stood there, thinking "Wow, this place is in the Bible."

It just made me think that everything in the U.S.A. is just "brand spanking new!"

Mirandrama, Europeans have their own problems to worry about. They don't like their own leaders, (they threw out Schroeder) and their unemployment rates are double ours. You know what? I'd be a little resentful too. But hey! They made their liberal beds, now they have to lie in them. (and suffer)

Gravatar Oops, that was me above.

Gravatar Sheeesh. I forgot to put my name in again! That was me on both those posts!

Gravatar the Brits were friendly to us last summer.

Gravatar Dave in Texas: Why do you hate America?

Gravatar Anonymous, no, you're confusing Dave with Mirandrama. Try not to do that.

Gravatar "So Mirandarama if you go to Europe and walk about with the stars and stripes over your shoulder, yes you might get some grief - but if you turn up as yourself, ask questions and show interest you will still be more than welcome."

No, chances are that Mirandarama would still be detested.

Gravatar Wonderduck, yes you're right. Creepy people are detested everywhere. Here or in Europe. Lol.

Gravatar Great post sparkle! I'm sure you had everyone thinking back while reading that to a time that seemed "simpler".
