Exactly, "he made it happen". Reagan fixed a broken economy handed to him by Carter, reduced taxes for everyone, restored confidence to the military, and won the Cold War. Not bad for one president.

25 years ago I worked in a factory that made monitors of air pollution to ensure that other factories were keeping pollution to a minimum. The air in orange county and Los Angeles was orange from nitric acids. President Reagan reduced the government bloat by killing the budget of the EPA within three months we went from a company of 250 employees to 50. The good news, I got a job in the star wars industry making million dollar computer systems that didn't work and sold them to the aerospace industry that the government funded with our taxes. Our mission was to create things to destroy the planet, not preserve it. To be fair I voted for Carter and was in the Unted States Navy while he was president and he was not good for me either, but I was not economically hurt. Under G.W. Bush my tax burden has increased because I am middle class not wealthy and my disposable income, due to increases in my health care and gas expenses has been reduced by 750.00 a month I am in worse shape economically than I ever have been and make more gross income than I ever did. That is the way that I saw the Reagan Years and the Republican administrations.

Clinton raised my taxes. I remember it so well. I was hardly making anything at the time, either. And then we know what else he did while in office as well. That's how I remember the Clinton years. I try to forget them.
The Reagan years boosted everyone. Blacks, everyone. They were great years. He was a great, great man. They don't come along like that very often. One of the best in the history of America.

Reagan! The greatest President in living memory. Definitely top five of all time.
Washington takes top billing for the simple act of NOT becoming a king.

And BTW, jandrew, while we're on the subject of one of the greatest men in history, Ronnie didn't ditch his wife. Jane wanted a divorce and he was heartbroken. For some reason the kooks on the leftwing blogs have this urban legend that Ronnie got Nancy pregnant and he left Jane. He hadn't even met Nancy when Jane left him.
As usual, the Left can't get their facts straight.

One of Reagan's greatest moments was when he as president of SAG stood up to Sen. McCarthy and told him off.

I think watching the week long events during Reagan's funeral week must have been one of the hardest things for a Lefty to watch. I've never seen such outpouring from millions of people all over, lining streets, lining up at the capital, gathering together in all parts of the U.S., all to mourn this great man. You could hear the irritation in the news reporters/journalists voices (I remember Ted Koppel seemed particularly irritated) by all the outpouring by the everyday people. I think they just couldn't believe what they were seeing. They had tried so hard for years to destroy this man and his reputation, and none of it had worked. He was beloved by everyone in America who was decent. I doubt there will be another show of emotion for the death of President for a while to come. Not for Ford, not for Carter, and certainly not for Clinton.

PatrickS, How can you say you didn't get a tax break? If you were working you got a tax break.
I am middle class and got a tax break. Not enough of one, but one just the same.
And If you were working on "star wars" then you weren't creating something that would destroy our planet, on the contrary, you were working on something to save it.

What happens when you ASSUME about a liberal?
What about just a voting American.
As a person who also LOVED Reagan and voted for Bush I (I also voted proudly for Clinton)
I found the whole funeral to be a true tribute to a great man, great president.
Wish I could say the same about Bush II
but my labs are smarter.

Ronald Reagan was the chief of peace via overwhelming force. Where would we be today if we tried ecomomic sanctions agaisnt the Soviets? Thank goodness that Mr. Reagan understood the America needed to stand firm against the Soviet threat, the UN was not the vehicle that could win the cold war. The UN is not the vehicle to win ANY war.

Yeah, Bush is so dumb. Yale and MBA at Harvard. I wish I was that dumb.
BTW, the Left claimed Reagan was too dumb to be president. You remember that? They constantly ridiculed him cuz he went to Eureka and not an Ivy League school. Elitism at it's finest.
So I don't really listen to the cries of who is dumb and who isn't.
Someone who would trust a 20-21 year old flaky, big mouth girl like Monica to keep her mouth shut about their "affair" is extremely dumb in my opinion. Not to mention that is horrible judgment.

RWS I believe it was called alternative minimum tax, but when my tax lady talks taxes to me my eyes just glaze over. I had credits for my son's tuition lowered and cancelled and had some of the advantages that I have for being a small business owner washed away. I am not a huge fan of taxes just because I'm liberal on some issues and my tax preparer is a republican and even more of a tax hater than I am she informed me that my tax burden increased about 200-300 a year after the Bush tax break. Save the world by designing objects to launch "nucular" missiles from space, I'm not sure how that can save a planet. The product that we made didn't work well and was full of bugs but the aerospace industry couldn't spend the 8 million dollars fast enough. I worked quality assurance and know the the reliability of that product oh and yea my trickle down cut in 1986 was 9.23 an hour.

Oh by the way I'm really not a Reagan hater I thought he did a decent job and surrounded himself with some good people, like Clinton, Reagan endorsed some policies that I didn't care for I didn't vote for him but I respected him as a president, even when he signed the tax bill to stop allowing tax credits for interest paid on credit cards and increased my taxes. I didn't like the money going to star wars I am more interested in helping people.

Very nice post! I was 13 years old when Reagan was Inaugurated. Even at that age, I knew he had greatness written all over him. One of the things I am most thankful for is what he did to end the Cold War. I grew up in Arkansas and remember all of the underground missile silos that surrounded the area in which I lived. I remember thinking if button got pushed, I would be one of the first ones to know about it and it was frightening to think about. When he made his Evil Empire speech in '83, I knew he meant business and a funny thing happened: I quit worrying about the missile silos. I just knew that he would protect us.

Regan and Thatcher were the biggest nightmare of my formative years. Compared to Regan Bush is a minow though I think he is responsible for more innocent deaths. Not sure. How many died from US backed terrorism in South America?

Bush makes many to be proud to be Americans. I constantly run into people in airports and restaurants who are very proud of Bush. Frankly, it surprises me after what we see on the MSM. It shouldn't, I guess.
He has accomplished quite a bit in 5 years. Most of all, he is an honest and decent man, something no one can say about Bill Clinton. Bush is not polished like Reagan but Bush has given some very impressive speeches. It's his policies especially in FOREIGN AFFAIRS that has made world history.

Bones is "standing his ground," but he is wrong about who is the minnow. Reagan wasn't a unilateralist bully and was not nearly the spendthrift Bush is. The US was still admired when Reagan was in office. The same cannot be said now.

We're admired now. We're envied now.
And of course Bush makes us proud to be Americans. I guess I should have added the word "again" (Reagan made us proud to be Americans AGAIN) after there had been so much pessimism and anti american sentiment after Vietnam and Nixon, etc. (not by me of course, I was always proud). Then the gloomy Carter years came along, then Reagan. It was like the bright light at the end of a long tunnel.
I loved Thatcher too. What a great woman. Reagan and Thatcher. Those were some awesome years.

Read any polls lately? Bush is in a race with Nixon towards the lowest poll numbers of the modern era.
The last I checked, Bush was at 40%. Clinton was at 60% at this point in his Presidency...
