That was totally awesome.
At least the interviewer let us know how he feels- you really CAN'T support the troops and be against the war at the same time.
Finally, some truth from the left.

I notice Jay was putting words into Sully's mouth. for example:
JAY: Cuz music has a power…?
SULLY: Mmm hmm. It’s a universal language.
JAY: So what you say with it, and what you do with it, has an effect…?
Note that these ar JAY'S words, which he is asking Sully to agree with.
Later:
JAY: Well, tell me what you mean. You said your music is powerful, it’s got an effect, like you said, and you’re letting the military use it. The military, who are they recruiting? 18-to-30-year-olds, right?
Note that Jay is now using his own words and attributing them to Sully. This is Begging the Question (h/t Jerry)
This particular logical error is repeated in the interview as well as others. IMO, this Jay is a self-righteous a-hole. His only effect will be to PO Sully and possibly make him more politically aware.

It was a set up from the beginning when he asked him how old his audience was.
It truly makes me ill that people like this who are allowed to say what they wish and enjoy our freedoms because of the military actually HATES the military.

Here's how it works: if a 16yo wants to have an abortion, she's an adult whose wishes should be respected. If an 18yo joins the military, she's a poor deluded child (Mama Moonbat: these children are coming home in boxes!)

BA: right.
Anyone who joins the military is a loser, a barbarian or somehow deficient
Anyone who has never served but supports the military is a "chickenhawk" and ought to be silenced. Their opinion is invalid.
Anyone who has never served and is against the military.... you get the idea.

Let's say Nike slaps their swoosh on some shoes that end up injuring kids, a lot, like those elevator kicks that had short Japanese girls tripping in front of traffic, but even more dangerous than that. Now you call Nike on an interview and ask:
YOU: How's business, do kids like your shoes?
NIKE: Yeah!
YOU: Why?
NIKE: Because the Nike logo helps create a high demand for our product and kids like being part of something cool.
YOU: Has your symbol been placed on those dangerous elevator shoes?
.............
Good for you. Asking Nike to defend slapping their label on the shoes is no big deal, right? {close, but obviously not a perfect mirror of the godsmack thing}

Yep, those darned freedoms sure can be tricky sometimes.
My take on the article:
Radio host was an ambushing jerk with a knack for forcing someone into a corner through rhetorical sleight-of-hand.
Band member was treated unfairly, but probably ought to be a little more aware of his world.

Godsmack's political? Hope it doesn't hurth their sales like the Dixie Chicks. They aren't letting the Navy use their stuff for free, are they? I bet they'd play a private concert for OBL if it paid what the Navy must be paying them.

May I chime in and point out that Sully is an excellent drummer AND an excellent guitar player AND writes some pretty interesting lyrics, AND can sing wonderful ballads (e.g. "Serenity")... Stuff people might want to ask about, you know, when they interview musicians. Unfortunately, the interviewer here apparently was not interested in discussing Sully's musical talents.

"No one wants American troops to keep dying in Iraq and Afghanistan. I know, because I’m one of those troops and I would prefer not to die here. On the other hand, and this is what you won’t hear from most mainstream media, if I do die over here, I’ll do so with few regrets. I wouldn’t be dying for a lie, as so many minstrels of misery and mischief keep spouting.
Americans are dying in Iraq so Americans don’t have to die at home, or so that they can die of self-inflicted things like lung cancer and heart attacks instead of having a building blow up and crush them while they are inside it. Don’t kid yourself that things are otherwise. Keeping the fight in the enemy’s home court is exactly the right thing to do." -

kill lots of innocent ones with remote long distance bombs at the beginning too- just in case you might run out of "the enemy" too fast.
never could figure out why I stopped liking Godsmack once I shipped out to ol’ Babylon. I really liked ‘em when I was in highschool - before I signed up - and even for a little while after. But it was as if someone flicked off a switch when my overseas orders came. I just chalked it up to the fact that so many other redneck hicks in the Corps were into them. Well, thanks for clearing the fog of war, and thanks for giving Sully a li’l bit o’ basic training!

it's a matter of months before the left, here and publicly begins to admit they don't support the troops. None of these "anti war" guys ever have, but they pretended to because they knew they'd be massacred in public opinion if they came out and admitted it. I think they believe that times have changed and its cool to admit it now.
Just watch. The very people who say "no way man, you're wrong, you suck" to this post will be saying they don't support the troops within a year.

We rely on the troops and their relentless ability to follow orders. For their bravery and ability to follow chain of command, we are eternally indebted. With each higher level of authority within the military though, each level is subject to more and more scrutiny because they are making more important decisions and following less orders. If by saying "support the troops" you mean the lower level muscle, YES, we support them. But if by "troops" you mean the commander in chief, NO, the polls reflect my sentiment that we do not support him. What would you do in this predicament?

Chris the left has publically here supported the troops who are liberating Iraq from Saddam Hussain's dictatorship and been against those that toast random babies from a distance. Keep up.
Out of the total number of innocent deaths how many relatives do you think would like to see the same happen to you?
If your troops had invaded ANY country with a dictatorship and stayed for three years how many people would you think would make snuff movies with knives? More or less than in Iraq now?

What's funny is that you'll hear "we support the troops" from people who oppose what they are doing, criticize everything they do, attack their commander in chief constantly, and oppose what they stand for.
If you are married, that kind of support for your spouse would get you divorced.

Um, if all your wife/spouse does is follow orders and you don't agree with how it's playing out, then you have only yourself, the chief (I guess) to blame. We support the troops BECAUSE they follow orders even when it endangers them...Their will to fight cannot be based on whether the mission is worthy of making them heros. Their will to fight and die must be based on the honor to follow orders. We never want the troops second guessing their orders. We do, however, want the one giving the orders to exhaust all reasonable options before we ask the troops to make the ultimate sacrifice. No matter if the Chief makes the right call or not, the troops who carry it out are always the heros.

yeah the troops are ok. can't blame them, but equatting them with suport for the commander in chief when he so casually throws justice out of the window and wont even put the REAL alleged mastermind of 9/11 Khalid Sheik Mohammed on trial is another matter.

Guys, the troops aren't robots. They signed up, deliberately and intentionally. They volunteered. They execute their orders because - if you ask them - they believe in what they are doing. They support the President by a large margin, over 80% in some polls. They think he's right about terrorism, about Iraq, and about fighting back.
This is all the stuff you disagree with, condemn, criticize, and constantly find fault with. That's not support.
Just be honest, come out and say what you're really thinking. It will make you feel better.

I don't like thinking Americans are thick. I don't like stereotypes, but bombing a country full of muslims and seeing who will fight you for rit seems totally thick to me. And then your friends at The Muslim Question talk up a war between Islam and the west. Why didn't "America" if we are all one see if the Muslim world was going to hold the perpetrators of 9/11 to acount before bombing innocent civilians?
seems like perfect sense to me but then who am I?
