I don't know what the democrats think they're going to "use" against McCain. The "third term of Bush" isn't going to work because as I've said before, the media has been in love with him for YEARS just because he WASN"T Bush. So that just won't work. Plus McCain has been around for years, we know him, we know what to expect, there are no real surprises and besides, he's a war hero. It's going to be hard to put him down without looking nasty.
Obama is new, so everything that pops on his background radar will be new and will get examined (at least by Fox & talk radio). Also, senior citizens who are the most dependable voting block are NOT going to vote for Obama. The youth vote is for Obama, but as enthusiastic as they seem, they are not dependable when it comes to getting to the polls.
People may say they are ready for change, but a black man with no real track record, except for having some very troublesome associations, who is also a far leftwinger is NOT the change people had in mind.

P.S. I've been wondering about Massachusetts and how they will vote. They had their own version of Obama (Deval Patrick) come along and run on "Hope" and he also had Axelrod as his advisor. He's the one that Obama plagerizes speeches from.
He has an almost 60% disapproval rating now. So Massachusetts has already sorta "been there, done that" with the "Black guy running on hope" theme. It didn't work out. Wonder if they will fall for it again.

Yeah, the "third term" of Bush won't work. McCain has gone against Bush too many times, especially critical of the managment of the war in the beginning. It just won't stick.

Being from Southern California, I for one don't get the race thing as much as people in the South. I would not think of that as a reason to vote AGAINST anyone. Totally on the issues do I vote for and against said candidate. My first election was for California governor in 1982. George Deukmejian, Republican, Armenian, attorney general VS. Tom Bradley, black, Democrat, mayor of Los Angeles. Voted for Deukmejian. Because he was a Republican. And by comparison, Mr. Bradley was a right-winger compared to Sen. Barack. I just hope that people vote FOR our guy, Sen. McCain and not AGAINST Sen. Barack simply because of race.

Obama has done none of that. Despite all his talk of unity, he has never unified with Republicans on anything.
Neither has McCain...
I guess the "Mav" and BHO have yet another thing in common.

RWS and Jill...We've all been interviewed. I've interviewed a 'few' from the other side of the interview process so here's my interview with interview 'E' Barack Zebra Obama:
"Mr. Obama, why should I vote for you?" Answer: "...'cause I'll bring CHANGE." "Mr. Obama...that's it?" Answer: "I'll bring CHANGE."
So I ended the interview since he couldn't tell me HOW he would bring CHANGE! Result: NO vote for Zebra Q-Tips Obama!
Am I the only one here who gets it RIGHT?

RWS, while I am in general agreement with your assessment of Obama, my fear is that none of that will matter.
IMHO, regarding to the Presidency, most people don't vote for what a politician stands for or against, what he has done or not done, whether he is far to the left or far to the right, nor experience nor accomplishments nor life story. A lot of people just vote for who they "like" the best. Likeability.
A lot of people who voted for Reagan were not conservative and did not share his world view. But they liked him and they despised Carter.
Obama has three strikes agains him: Wright, Ayers, Resko
I hope its enough...

Obama can win in the same way Blair won. If he speaks a totally different language to you guys basically. He's had one good attempt. Electorates like young, enthusiastic, hopeful. America can respond to the Kennedy-esque, whether this is Obama remains to be seen. He can do it, its whether he will. If he makes speeches which capture the public imagination he can make McCain look very old without insulting him or even referring to him.
Any attempts to smear him with his race will fail because he is so obviously part of the white mans business world.
Its very much up to Obama and the language he uses.Blair spoke in such a way that the whole conservative machine looked totally tired and outdated. Obama could make all of you look the same way.
Blair went on to adopt conservative policies the whole way. I wouldn't bet that Obama would go and do exactly the same thing.

Obama's undeserved success is not political, it is cultural. A sizable fraction of Americans rightfully pissed off about our corrupt two-party plutocracy have let themselves be deceived by the same kind of slick, empty rhetoric that is used all the time to sell products and services (and mortgages) to gullible consumers.

McCain has a good shot at taking New York, PA and Ohio. Do the math = President McCain. I am a former Democrat and I am voting for McCain on principle because I do not think Obama is qualified to be president.

I am beyond disgusted with the dems. It's as if no one cares to research someone who had never really been heard of nationally before. Or if they do, it's easily explained away by BO "you know me, right?" Uh, no we really don't. I have searched my soul and there is no way I can justify participating in this process come November. Call me what you will, but I'm 52 and I am tired of the poor choices and outcomes.
HELL NO, I WON'T BO!

I always love when people say obama is this ulta liberal but they never say why they think this besides some arbitrary rankings. Why not list some actual issues you feel he is ultra-left on??? And try to stick to the facts. All i hear is a bunch of name calling without anyone backing it up with facts. If you were right about obama then his actions should speak louder than your accusations. Start citing his actions.

To defeat McCain, just show the infamous Judas kiss that Bush planted on McCain's lips over...and over...and over....the only thing more motivating than prejudice, among the uneducated, is homophobia.

Bob,
Look at his record on abortion. That is going to be a real issue for him when he tries to conect with conservatives. He's far more liberal than Hillary on it, even more than Kucinich, and even more extreme than NARAL. The guy is a strong supporter of partial-birth abortion which to a lot of people is infanticide. A bill against the practice passed unanimously in the senate but a similar bill in Illinos was opposed by Obama when he was an Illinos legislator. That's extremely left, and lot more left then the majority of people are comfortable with.

Calling blacks racist for voting for Obama is completely unfair and shows the incredible lack of understanding of blacks and their culture. White Americans have never known the feeling of having your hopes and aspirations crushed growing up in this country and realizing hrough maturity, the limitations that will be placed on you solely because of your skin color. Obama as president will forever put to rest that argument and give us the ability to look our children in the eye and honestly say that nothing is impossible for them to accomplish in this country. If only all of you could understand just how priceless that is for all of us. this isn't about race, for us. It's a culmination of a dream to "..speed up that day when all God's children, black men, white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, can sing in the words of the old negro spiritual 'Free at last, free at last, thank God almighty we're free at last!'"

Bob,
BHO is far left on health care, the War on Terror, immigration (yeah yeah I know, so's McCain), being soft on America's enemies, abortion, his views on race (he has been a Jeremiah Wright's "grasshopper" for 20 years), economics...
You name it, he'll be to the left on the issue.

kenneth,
I wasn't calling blacks racist for voting for Obama. I said if you can't call people racist for not voting for him because he is black then you can't when they don't for the opposite reason.
It's not all (pardon the pun) black and white either. Many whites that wouldn't vote for Obama, would vote for Colin Powell or Condi Rice. I totally understand why blacks would have pride in Obama and vote for him for historical reasons. But the fact remains that the main reason is his skin color. Let's just admit what we do and own up to it. This whole PC crap is ridiculous.

RWS, you are right on! If Sen. Barack were a white senator with these radical positions, such as on abortion, "talking" with our enemies, socialized medicine, Sen. Clinton would be the nominee as we speak and Sen. Barack would be back doing his senate work. Let's face it, both candidates are playing the race card, but Sen. Barack is playing a bit of a subtle game. Not as blatant as Grand Dragon, er, Sen. Clinton. If either one had an R after the name, this would be endless coverage about how racsist and evil the Republicans are. But, alas, it is ok when the Democrats stray into this territory. UGH!

"Well, if you call the vast majority of blacks voting for Obama as racist, then yes. Because if it isn't wrong for someone to vote for a man based solely on his skin color.."
This argument is so insulting. It assumes that black people are not capable of independent thought and free will in the voting booth. If it were as simple as voting for Sen. Obama because of his race, then explain the voting patterns black as it relates to ...say, Jessie Jackson, Michael Steele, Al Sharpton, Lynn Swann, Ford in Tennessee, just to name a few black candidates who have not gotten full black support.
The truth of the matter is that black folks have been supporting white men candidates for a long time; each time holding our noses and upholding our civic duty, while voting for the lesser of two evils. Black people ARE the base of the Democratic Party. Why? Because we don't feel we have any other voice in the political spectrum. It's funny, because many of us don't even like the Democratic Party either.
The Republicans, on the other hand, are hypocrites. They wave the American flag in front of you, and claim that they protect American values..but they will only act to protect the Americans, by and large, who look like them. Their whole election strategy...ahem, Southern Strategy...is to unite people of non-color, by dangling "colored" issues as red meat to get them to the polls; they repeatedly use race baiting as a political tactic.
Despite the various cultural differences in this country, black people are Americans too. We have fought and died in wars abroad and on this soil, even when our government would not protect our pride, dignity and rights here at home.
I'd like to look at the flag one day and see my brown face reflected in its fabric, and for America to recognize its value and service to this country. The "idea" of the likes of a Pres. Obama has been in my head for a long time. The man, however, recently appeared.
