Well if you believe Obama is a pathological liar, and really will raise taxes on everyone despite what he says, why even argue about policy? If he goes back on his word, there will be a reckoning with the voters. Don't you believe HW Bush was partially sunk by going back on the no new taxes pledge?
As for gun control, I dislike many of Obama's gun control views. It's not an issue that I care a whole lot about and I don't think it's high on his priority list if he becomes president, so I'm not that concerned about it. That list you cite is from an NRA site, and I don't doubt a fair amount of it is correct, but I do wonder about the details since the NRA is essentially a Republican special interest group.

Then way he voted can't be disputed.
I hate to say that Obama is a liar, he is probably justifying what he has to say to get elected. But I've never known a Democrat who didn't love raising taxes. Just what he has admitted he WILL do is disasterous imo.
If Obama wins I will pay more taxes, no doubt about that. And as frustrating as that is (and unfair) I will just not spend as much or give as much to charity. Like businesses that are taxed, the tax is ALWAYS passed on to the consumer. So millions like me will spend less, give less, and the economy will suffer. It doesn't take an economist to figure that out.

Well, the hundreds of millions in the other brackets will spend more then under Obama, and pick up the slack. Only the top 5 percent would be taxed more. That 23K figure is also an average of the whole top 5% RWS, so unless your household income is close to the seven figure range, it won't be nearly that steep. If you're closer to the 227K bottom of that group it should be negligible. We're slightly below that level and would get a slight cut under either one.
By the way, what ever happened to McCain the deficit hawk? He seems to have flipped to the W plan during this campaign. His tax plan will balloon the deficit more than Obama's even if the economy goes back to how it was pre-housing crash. The Laffer Curve is far from infinite, despite what some Republicans would have you believe.

Any thoughts on the current discussion Mark? Will McCain's plan get us back onto more sound financial footing, and if so, how is his tax plan better than Obama's for recovering? Is it better to cut a bit more overall, but tilt it toward the top rungs, or cut a bit less, but tilt it toward the middle class? Those are the plans.

I would say Obama's history shows he will not change what caused these latest problems. That, combined with his tax plan being more about redistribution than anything else and placing more of the burden on small business and investment will slow the economy.

OK, so where should the burden shift? It doesn't sound like Republicans think anyone should take the burden. Should we continue to run a deficit, and keep running it even larger, or does that not matter? Doesn't that mean future generations take the brunt of it?

Cut the dreadfully bloated federal budget, wasteful spending, earmarks, pork-barrel spending. Which party is more likely to do these things?
Also, the capital gains tax increase and dividend tax WOULD be disasters.

Well nikkolai, you'll have to pardon my lack of confidence in your party to do that. Erik,
There is more to this than just shifting the burden. The burden needs to be lessened and along with it the reach of government. Our side has a better record of fighting for that and/or actually doing it then Obama or Biden.
Whatever burden is left should be spread as wide as possible, so that revenue is as stable as possible.

Obama's economic plan actually calls for *completely eliminating the capital gains taxes for small businesses and start ups.*
And if by lessening the reach of the government you mean destroying the regulatory system put in place after the Great Depression and setting us up for the next one, yeah I guess "your side" has a better record of that. But I wish we'd actually think about what is best for the country as a whole and stop treating this like some kind of obnoxious game.

Tacomamama,
And then when they are not "small" or start ups, they get punished for that success with even higher taxes. Real good incentive for economic growth there. That's assuming Obama doesn't change his plan - again, or pull the Bill Clinton game of - it's worse than I thought - cant cut taxes like I said. If he really is narrowing the number of tax payers that has it's own problems, one being reducing the stabilty of the revenue stream while he increases spending. Also, from what Ive seen, much of his tax "cuts" are actually rebates and turn the tax code into welfare by giving those to people who already pay no taxes.
As for my side - I was referring to McCain/Palin. McCain pushed for reforming those institutions and was blocked by Democrats and yes, I'm sure some Republicans. Obama was silent and has received quite a bit of money from Fannie mae and Freddie mac along with Chris Dodd.
Obama/Biden do not have a record of taking political risks and trying to reform their own party.
If you think the only way to reduce the reach of government is to eliminate necessary regulations, you don't know much about how bloated our govt is.

Questioning whether either of these candidates loves their country is ridiculous of course. Not surprising that Jill would. I'm pretty sure that she questioned Kerry's too, and will undoubtedly question the patriotism of the next Democratic presidential candidate in 2012 or 2016.
Side note, I find it funny that some Republicans are taking offense at the "get in their face" comment. It shows their age, not completely understanding the term.
The first debate is this week, thank goodness. It's all getting closer and closer to being over. Obama either tied or might be barely ahead. We'll see where he is at this time next week after the debate. So Jill, are you going to leave the country if Obama wins? After all, he's going to ruin the country just like Bill Clinton did, right? Oh wait, he didn't either. I guess you'll stay then?

I think it's unfair to paint Democrats with a broad brush. There are millions of Democrats who love their country deeply. They served and they understand the war on terror.
As far as the leadership goes, there are many that I feel really don't love their country (I'll not name names) and who feel that America is part of the problem with greed and the war. I;m sure with their friends they talk about how awful America is. YOu all know that's true, even you Erik.
Now, as far as Obama goes, I only know that I haven't heard him once talk about how much he loves this country. McCain says that at almost every speech. I think Obama sees a different America than I do. I won't speak to his patriotism, but that there is no doubt in my mind that Obama would never give what McCain has given for his country and that he doesn't love it the way McCain does.

RWS, trust me, Obama & his wife have loathing for this country. Especially Michelle. I think for each success that she's had (along with her brother the basketball coach) she feels that everyone is looking at her as if she got it through affirmative action and lowering standards. That's one of the effects of AA. That anger they get over thinking others look at them as if they somehow "got ahead" through artificial means. They start to resent that and it builds.
Like Rush, I know these people like the back of my hand. I have said this earlier but the only liberal in my family is my dad's sister. Years and years ago he gave all his sibilings this book called :America The Beautiful." Everyone loved it except his sister, who rolled her eyes and said something like "Dont' even bother trying..." That made a huge impression on me and ever since that day I'm aware of how most every liberal I've known or encountered falls right into that category. I suspected it about Obama, and then Rev. Wright, Father Pfleger and Michelle Obama all CONFIRMED what I suspected.

RWS, thank you for most of that. However, the part about us getting together and talking about how awful America is does NOT happen at least in my circles (though I have many friends of many stripes politically). When we talk about things being "messed up" it's always a "WHO", not our country overall, or if it's a specific issue over our history like serial dictator-propping then we'll say our poorly thought out policy but we never EVER say anything like "America is awful". We do love this country and I am very grateful to have been born here. I don't think we're so leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the world culturally as some do, but I've got no plans to live elsewhere. I could if I wanted to, and would if I thought our country was terrible. Where in the world do you get the impression that there are bunches of Democrats slamming the country all over the place? Please don't say Rush. *:-P
As for our leadership, I'm not happy with some of our party's leaders. Others I'm more happy with. It's a mixed bag.

I think it's the general moral degeneracy of the left that allows them to almost dismiss the charge of pathological liar against Obama.
Obama doesn't just flip flop, he flip flops only for self-serving reasons -- never as a consequence of rethinking an issue.
Barack Obama is a base human being because he lies, because he uses 'community organizing' tactics to supress free speech, because he uses 'community organizing' tactics to fabricate votes, because he has long-lasting friendships and close relationships with terrorists, convicted criminals, America-hating lowlifes, and the list goes on.
The Left ignores his character and his record. I can't. I feel contempt for this man because of who he is and what he's done/doing. People keep saying that he's an empty shell, representing everything that anyone wants to project onto him. This is exactly right, which is why he votes present, why he flip flops, why he lies -- because people will simply believe whatever they want when it comes to him.
He will vote against guns and then say he's for guns, and this will not cause a ripple in the minds of those who support him.
Obama will destroy this country because he'll open the gateway to the degeneracy of traditional American values, not least of all merit and integrity.

Erik says...."Side note, I find it funny that some Republicans are taking offense at the "get in their face" comment. It shows their age, not completely understanding the term."
Funny, just this morning at work, I saw the "in you face" tactic employed by a Obama supporter by screaming down a McCain supporter. In his face no less. It's the old tactic if you can't win the debate with facts, you yell and shout them down. Prime example were the 3 shrills on "The View" when McCain would try to speak and was constantly talked over by Whoopi and Behar. I'm sure you are a big fan of Bill Maher, you surely notice what happens when the lone conserative or Republican supporting Bush happens to get invited on. Talked over, shouted down, mocked.
Erik, maybe in your town people are generally civil, so you don't get what the "in your face" commotion is all about. To see what it really means, be brave and put a McCain/Palin bumper sticker in your back window and drive around on a busy road for a while and see how fast you get flipped off or have garbage thrown out the window at you or have some lunatic yell at you with a bunch of 4 lettr words and hoping you die of cancer (while you have a 6 year old daughter in the car).
Go park that car at a typical shopping mall for a few hours with that bumper sticker in your window and see if you don't come back later and find a nice key gouge on your car.
Put on a McCain pin and go walk around the mall for a while with a small child in tow and watch somebody come up and call you a Mother F***er Racist with your child right there to hear it.
Go into Borders or Barnes and Noble with that same to buy a book and watch that 28 year old employee with the long scraggy beard and John Lennon glasses roll his eyes at you when he sees what pin you are wearing.
Maybe you live in a place where somebody could put up a McCain/Palin sign on your lawn and not have any worries about coming home and finding the sign gone, or destroyed and stuffed into your mail box.
"In your face" in street terms is exactly what it means. Especially when Obama said....."I want you to argue with them and get in their face."
That is not a friendly debate, that is an intimidation tactic no matter how you would like to spin it.

Rightwinger, you said it right man! I have a McCain sticker on my car and I was going down a two lane road doing well over the speed limit and a guy in a older Prius no less and got right on my bumper and was waving at me to pull over and started honking the horn. So I pulled over and let him go by, he then gave me the finger and sped past. As he went by I saw the wallpapering of leftist propaganda stickers on the back of his car and prominently were the Obama sticker and below that was a sticker that said "Coexist"!! I had a brief thought of pulling him out of his little beer can car by his throat at the next light, but thought better of it. Instead, I found myself pitying him and all like him that have so much anger inside and have rejected God and what it means to be an American that ALWAYS has been proud of his country. Instead they want layabouts to get paid to stay home and be idle. They want misguided women and young girls alike to have the "CHOICE" to murder their babies at any stage of their pregnancies. They want more and more government and less and less personal freedom and responsibility.
As I think of liberals while I write this the only thing that comes to mind is that they don't care about fact or reason and in that they share the same trait as a someone who is insane. Doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. That's the definition of insanity isn't it?
By the way, I went to cafepress.com and bought a new Obama/Marx 08 sticker (search for it, it's very funny)and it is now on the back of my car and if one of the libs want to start with me in the future I don't think I will be so nice next time.

My condolences to the people that have had the strong-arm tactics put on them by ignorant people. I don't condone people shouting anyone down either.
We all have these stories. A co-worker of mine that lives near Phoenix had his car vandalized for his Obama sticker (the spray-painters made it clear the sticker was the reason). I also play a computer game where I named a character indicating my preference for Obama. Friday I was called a "N***** lover" by one guy. A couple weeks ago a Marine told me Obama was Muslim and we need to keep ragheads out of the White House. Last week someone said "Real men hate N*****s" to me. Another guy had a good-natured at first argument with me about politics but he started getting angry and hurling expletives when I disagreed. My character in the game has been killed six times now by someone in my OWN FACTION. They hate Obama so much that they would kill my character and hurt our own chances of winning a battle in the game.
Anyway, I am not getting a bumper sticker this year because I don't want to be a target like this in real life. You guys aren't going to see the crazies on the other side because you're on their side. Don't you think there are some towns where proclaiming your support for Obama in the local bar could be hazardous to your health?

Erik... there is a side to every coin and it's embarrassing to call anyone human if they do what you say was done to you or do what is happening to those who are on the other side of the coin. I also play a computer game on-line where in people run around doing the opposite of what you describe... telling people they are racist for not voting Obama or love "the old white guy" or love the "rigid woman from Alaska". It's coming at us from every angle and to me, these people are nothing more than grade schoolers in adult costumes (and I'm not just speaking of the game... there are journalists with this same problem).
What I want to know is... where are the mature adults in all of this? Why are 20s and 30s and 40s on up acting like they're in 4th grade. Hell... the real 4th graders have a stronger grip on humanity than their parents... that is until they're bombed with what their parents want them to think; even if it's harmful.

Obama's record and actions speak for them selfs. What's the old saying? You are known by the company you keep? So let's see-- Ayers, Wright, Pfelger (sp), ACORN, Rezko.....one time I might believe "he was just someone I knew casually". When you show a continued pattern of such acquaintances, that shows either a complete lack of being able to read people or you are choosing to know and associate with them. Neither quality is one needed by the person in the oval office.
As for the 2nd amendment, look at the nature of the laws he was for-- exactly how is a higher tax on guns and bullets going to decrease crime by people who, 98% of the time, steal or buy from another unsavory person, the firearms they use to commit crimes? Chicago has already some of the most restrictive gun laws in the country, yet the murder by firearms rate is astronomical. Another law is somehow going be the magic one that ends all this? Thats the type of pie-in-the-sky thinking you REALLY don't want a president to engage in within the post 9-11 world. It's just another way of voting 'present'.

Erik, nowhere did I say that nobody who is voting for McCain would commit intimidation tactics like this. I came out and pointed out how naive your comment was about why people are not happy with the "in your face" orders that Obama barked out to his surrogates.
Remember the old militant homosexual cry..."I'm homosexual and I'm in your face!!!!". Now that is the battle cry of the militant left. In case you never saw it, there was a study done (I think last year) to guage who was angrier and unhappier in their lives and it showed people with a liberal position in life were more likely to be "bitter and angry" than those on the right. The study was put out in a book. The name escapes me for the moment.

I just moved to Missouri from Chicago, and during the 12 years I lived in Missouri, Obama never once opposed Mayor Daley and Chicago's tough gun control laws. I forgot to correct you on the Bush tax cuts. They are set to expire in 2010. Chairman Obama's tax hikes on the rich, which have gone from $300,000 to $250,000 to $200,000. Now Biden said $150,000 and Bill Richardson of New Mexico said $125,000, are separate from the Bush tax cuts. When they expire, we automatically get a tax increase without Dear Leader Chairman Obama ever proposing anything. He isn't lying, but he isn't being truthful to the middle class either.
