They should have asked serious questions.

And what did you think of the questions that they asked ?
Should all people who ask questions of the Republican candidates be only sworn Republicans ?
Republicans make up about 1 of 3 in the United States.

According to CNN, though I won't vote for any of the democrat candidates and currently lean towards Fred as my first pick, I'm a completely undecided voter.
Whoda thunk it?

John,
Uhh..this isn't the general election. This is the REPUBLICAN primaries. You know, where REPUBLICANS decide who we want our nominee to be. Democrats should have nothing to do with it. When our nominee is selected then they can ask all the questions they wish.
I don't really care if Democrats do ask questions, but planted questions from other campaigns is just wrong.

Define "plants from other Democratic campaigns".
In the words of Enrico Montoya:
"I don't think that word means what you think it means".

Let me see if I have this straight. If I publicly declare my support for a candidate, then ask questions of another candidate, I am acting on behalf of the candidate I supports campaign?
In your little world do presidential candidates really have or deserve the power to control individuals and their actions?

Being a registered Democrat should disallow you from asking questions at a Republican Primary debate. In my state, only a registered Republican can vote in a Republican primary. Independants have no primary so they have no vote in the primaries for the parties. Democrats have their primary in which I have no voice. So it stands to reason that people at a Republican debate shoud be *gasp* registered Republicans.
CNN touted this as a forum for Republican voters to ask questions. They should have vetted the questioners better. They owe the candidates and the audience an apology.

Factcheck.org said Huckabee lied on his two biggest answers of the nite and stretched the truth on his third
Interesting, Huckabee has an Arkansaian politcal problem with the truth according to many sources
Wonder when this is going national?

Look, the Dems, and CNN have absolutely no problem with using plants in the audience. Hillary does it. CNN did it, with Dem plants at the Dem debate, and to remain consistent, they used Dem plants, again, at the Republican debate. Who cares if one was on a Kerry steering committee, one worked for Biden, one is on a steering committee for Hillary. They are surely undecided voters, only in the sense that they have no yet picked which Democrat they will vote for. Can you imagine the absolute outrage, and wall to wall coverage there would be had Fox done this to the Dems?

How exactly should CNN have screened the audience at this public event?
What steps are you suggesting that CNN, Fox News, or any other debate sponsor take prior to allowing people to sit in the audience of the debate and have a chance of answering or asking questions of the candidates running for an office which will put them in power over the entire populace of our nation?
Anyone with any reasonable suggestions?

jandremorrison,
They said they would try to avoid gotcha questions and such and within minutes perhaps hours of the debate a number of bloggers had simply used google to find out that a number of questioners were not Republican or undecided. Is CNN so incompetent it can't even use a resource of it's partner youtube ie google?

jandrewmorrison,
If hundreds, if not thousands of conservative bloggers can find this info on the net within minutes of the videos being played during the debate, then yes, CNN and You Tube shouldbe expected to find it JUST AS EASILY!!
It is called responsibility and accountability. But to expect that out of CNN is a little much, don't you think? It would be a complete change of management direction for them.
