Pseudonymph, the last time I took Rik to the beach was to collect sharks' teeth at Caspersen in Florida. (John loved it!) Rik had to walk barefoot in the sand. Mind you, after 8 minutes, he was tired of walking... (ducks, hides!)

$\"Gravatar\"$ The best type of footwear for the beach is \"au natural\" - i.e. naked feet! Granted, the sun can make the sand very hot to walk on, so one just walks faster. And it means that there is no wear or tear on extra, unecessary pieces of footwear.

A great alternative would be to stick a sanitary pad to the sole of each foot - no chance of burning feet now, but you might get shot by onlookers for being so weird.

$\"Gravatar\"$ Oh and with sandles I obviously recommend no socks (although in secret in the comfort of your own house they are actually quite comfy, shhh don't tell anyone), and with trainers I recommend trainer socks, or secret socks as I like to call them, they are the ones that stop just below you ankle and can barely be seen x
