You Rock! I know you don't know me, but you MAY remember my parents from St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Joseph. My dad, Fred Phillips passed away 4 years ago Thanksgiving, my mom, Honey Phillips is still alive and Fr. Brian Stanley is my 2nd cousin and he and you said my Father's funeral mass.
ANYWAY, I have quite a history with the church myself, and with the help of Fr. ken Schmitt and Brian, I am re-investigating the Catholic faith. Hence I came upon your blog.
I LOVE that you took the children to that church in Chicago! I wish I could go! It brings back fond memories. I too LOVE the old gegorian (sp?) chants, and old latin songs like Panic Angelicus and Ave maria. It's hard to find recordings of those.
Just wanted to say good job - and it is priests like you and encourage me to keep trying to reconile with the church.
Take care and God Bless!

I found your blog last year when you posted on the music of the DC Papal Mass & you were actually my introduction to the Catholic blogosphere which I didn't know existed. Your parishoners are indeed blessed to have such a dedicated priest as yourself at the helm. What an awesome experience for your youth. Rock on.

Agellius--there are good things happening in Los Angeles, too. Check out the Sunday evening Mass at St. Victor's in West Hollywood. We're not the St. John Cantius choir, but we do all right. Once a month we have Solemn High Mass on a Friday night, and at some point in the future we will be adding a monthly Sunday Low Mass to our schedule.

Fr. Rob Johanson,
The people at St.Stans have no idea what a great gift they had when you were here.
You were what this parish needed and we were so blessed by God for your short presence here and your love for the sacred, with the ancient liturgy, chant and sacred music.
I wish you the very best in whatever the Lord has in store for you.
