Oh (squeal!) I am so glad to find another fan of Our Hearts were Young and Gay!!! I have a very battered old copy which popped up during the move & I gave it to Amelia to read. She's now keeping it on her bookshelf because she likes to re-read parts of it. It's such a great snort out loud book! |
Now I have one more reason to want you to come over for a visit! |
I "inherited" from my grandmother one of the original, loose-leaf style Country Living books by Carla Emery, printed back in the 1970's. It's an interesting piece of work! I dig it out every now and then when I'm looking for certain information... I've especially enjoyed the section on breadmaking and sourdough. |

Hi Becky, |
Loved reading your answers, too, Becky! |
Martha Grimes is dreadful, exceedingly faulty sense of British English syntax and idiom. Try Laurie King, another American writer who does far better with her Mary Russell (Mrs S. Holmes) books. |
Julie, Denise, and Karen, come over too (and Julie, bring that original edition -- it would be fun to see!) |
Becky, you are so right about Laurie Colwin. I LOVE her Home Cooking books; I was especially sure to save them during my recent clearing of the bookshelves. |
Its funny how people either LOVE or HATE the "Love you forever" book! |
I am with you on The Encyclopedia of Country Living and the Laurie Colwin book. I didn't know that she had died until I finished reading her first cookbook, and when I discovered this awful truth, I immediately burst into tears. (I have to admit to being a *wee* bit sensitive.) But it was like losing a dear friend before you'd even really gotten to know her. |
Gee, now, I can't imagine anyone having much to say about Love You Forever. Nope. Surely not. Nope. |
