Choosing one poetry anthology for the suitcase was tough. I had a few on the shelves, but ultimately selected Favorite Poems Old and New, not too bad a choice, but knowing there are so many wonderful ones out there keeps me second guessing. Oh, that I had read your post with time on the clock for a quick Amazon delivery.

If you're going for quantity and quality, and you're overseas with just a suitcase, I think Favorite Poems is a dandy choice; it's a nice little compact size for 700+ poems, too. It's the one we come back to time and again.

Very well said.

You might be interested to know that Mat and I were belatedly doing the Guardian Christmas crossword which had a few clues (like 21 or so) relating to A Midsummer Night's Dream. At various points, he would ask Tigger about details of the play and she was actually able to reply. I was amazed as she hasn't even looked at that for quite a while. I continue to be amazed at what sticks in her head.

Excellent post, Becky! Thanks....

The scatalogical factor is certainly there in a few poetry books for children and in many other categories of children's books, too. It's a bigger problem in children's TV; I notice a heavy reliance on scatalogical humor on several Nickolodeon shows.

Susan, before the kids were born I was unhappy that we had only two TV channels out here in the boonies. Now I realize it's a blessing!
