I like the Gehry building, mostly (except for the wretched lettering and the inattention to street-level stresses, which brings the shiny metal shell low enough to suffer dents and corrosion).
That shot doesn't capture the context. It's an institutional building in a welter of institutional buildings on a traditional open campus that suffers from a profound lack of architectural oomph - a jewel on green velvet, like the CMA. It's thrilling up close and seductive from afar. What's wrong with that? And for the record, I like Balboa, too.
