About time! What irks me most is this is the exact path of the old Georgia Avenue trolley line - WHY was it ever dismantled??!! Certainly it never lacked for ridership and now they are just scrambling for ways to re-create it. From what I hear from older folks around when the trolley was in service - it was alweays full, was a pleasant ride, ran on schedule, and was easy to take. So let's push for the trolley or other light rail to come back and why stop at SS metro? Why not go right up route 29 all the way? Heaven knows, our worst commuting traffic in these part is not east-west but north-south.

The District is planning to reintroduce streetcars in coming years. The first new line is already under construction in Anacostia. Here is a map of the proposed corridors.
Georgia Avenue is probably third in line (after Anacostia and H Street/K Street/Georgetown).
This Rapid Bus service sounds like an interim step, not unlike the PikeRide improvements to Columbia Pike that were put in place in anticipation of the streetcar service Arlington recently approved for that corridor.
I agree completely that Georgia Avenue should have a streetcar and that buses aren’t enough, but I also think every major corridor in the city should have this type of bus service.
