Gravatar A little off topic but how is that white VW Rabit supposed to get out of his parking space without T-boning both smart cars? Maybe smart cars should have side panel bumpers for perdendicular parking.

Gravatar Another option for a short range city car is a rechargable electric car. These are available now, for about half of what a smart car ($15K+) will cost.

Also some of the hybrids get better milage and pollute less than the smart car.

Gravatar Ken,

Can you direct me to some more info on these rechargable electric cars?

Gravatar So I think I might be unclear about the list. As I understand it, it's the continuum of better mobility choices, right? We want people to quit using the bottom ones and move toward the top.

In that case why are motorcycles below multiple cars? Why is the railroad last?

Here's my ranking

walking
cycling/roller blading
Battery powered individual transport systems - like Segway
Light rail/streetcar
Heavy rail/ferries
Bus
Small Gas powered individaul transport systems - like scooters
Electric cars
Motorcycles
Shared cars
Small Single passenger cars
Large Single passenger cars
Taxis

There's more. I might move a fuel cell powered bus up above light rail - especially if they purchased carbon offsets. But I've not done "all the math" as it were.
