Gravatar i voted for vince gray with similar expectations particularly out H street NE

Gravatar Is there any proposed timeframe for the H st ne streetcar? probably an even longer wait.

Gravatar Well, they haven't bought any cars for H Street. Until they order some, it ain't happening. The streetscape construction starts next year, and will take two years. They will install rails at the same time. But the time frame to receive a streetcar can be longer than 3 years as there are only two plants manufacturing the cars right now, although Oregon Iron Works has licensed the design and intends to manufacture cars as well.

Gravatar Here is a link to the proposed corridors:

It seems to me that there should be more focus on the NY Ave corridor and the Ft. Totten to Tenley crosstown consideration.

I wouldn't mind seeing the depos at 14th and Colorado and at Chevy Chase Circle being restored to their original purpose!

Gravatar What's the time lag on ordering Refurbished PCC cars? Wouldn't H St. be a perfect opportunity to run some PCC cars while we wait for the new ones? Or better yet, what about running some of the DC trolley Museum's collection on H St. while we wait. (or as long as we're thinking big, why not move the museum to H St. and use the tracks as a working museum).

Locating vintage trolley cars on H St. would overcome at least one frequent complaint about heritage cars, namely that they appeal just to tourists and ward off routine use by residents. On H St., just about the only use would be by residents.

Gravatar I made the same suggestion in January (and last year), although I haven't seen much take up in the idea. DC is more into the new cars. I'll put the link in later.

Gravatar Last I heard, DDOT was having trouble securing the CSX right-of-way because CSX wanted a ridiculous sum of money for it. They hired some law firm that specializes in forced abandonments and were threatening to hold CSX to an old law that would force them to pay 10% of the cost of rebuilding the 11th Street and Welsh Memorial bridges.

Does this mean they were successful?
