Oy vey! Talk about putting the fox in charge of the henhouse. GWU is probably one of the biggest cogs in the DC growth machine wheel. Retiring GWU President Steve Trachtenberg spent the first 12 years of his tenure doling out favors and insinuating himself with Washington pols, and the last seven years of his tenure collecting his chits on those favors to turn GWU into a massive, second-rate diploma mill.
GWU has ruined the Foggy Bottom/West End neighborhood and turned it into a student ghetto and economic sinkhole, the details of which I won't go into here. I will admit that GWU is one of the top marketers in the DC region: using its location four blocks from the White House to attract kids to a second-tier college with one of the highest tuitions in the country.
