Replacement Level Yankees Weblog Comments

That walk rate for Kennedy on his MLEs is a little higher than I'd have thought.

Gravatar I've been thinking about the Brad Radke comp for awhile now. and there's nothing wrong with having Radke's career 115 ERA+, i think that while they really don't throw anything particularly similar, he and Wang will most likely have about the similiar level of effectively relatively career wise.

And there's really nothing wrong with that. hell i take 5 guys like that on my staff and I'd have the best overall rotation in baseball.

Gravatar The walk thing is interesting.
You'd think that pitchers might largely fall into two categories: those who, moving up to MLB, either retain their walk rate or have it rise SIGNIFICANTLY. Not too much in the middle. Don't know for sure if that's true. If it is true, would the projection systems tend to average those two groups?

Also - where is everybody?

Yeah, I don't think the MLE formula I use can differentiate between the two types of pitchers, but I think you're right about different types of pitchers and their stuff translating differently at the major league level. It's a lot easier to show good control if you have minor leaguers swinging at pitches that major leaguers won't.

Kennedy seems to have pretty good command, so I don't think he's really a 4 walk per 9 inning guy, but I guess we'll find out in due time.

Gravatar Beane wants Kennedy+ for Harden?
