Yes, but did you like it?
I agree that the physical book is a beautiful piece of work and is well designed.
I had the chance to review this one a few months ago and I struggled through it.
Cook's Black Company novels are absolutely fantastic, but if I didn't have the second Dread Empire waiting for review on my shelf, I know I wouldn't read it.
That said, I had the chance to read the first few chapters of the first Garret PI novel, and loved it.

I've got to tackle the Garrett books myself, I've heard/seen nothing but good things about the books.
Is the "did you like it?" sarcasm?

7 Chapters (30 pages) read in Barnes and Nobles while waiting for my wife to finish with her eye appointment. I almost wanted it to run a little long so I could keep reading.
It's actually a serious question. I can tell you respect and like the work of Glen Cook overall, but outside of the last paragraph (which is still a touch vague), I can't tell if you liked the novels or if you just respect the importance of their place in fantasy history and their influence on Vandermeer and Erikson.

Joe,
I appreciate the thoughts and I've reworked the review a bit. Like I said in the intro, the review was sitting in the files for a while so it was a bit rough around the edges.
Thanks
Rob
