How did this happen?? How did this idiot get this far. I can't stand it. Why and how is he getting away with being the President? I suppose I know the answer but it still occasionally blows my mind and I have to scream.
Thank you for listening. Rant over. I feel much better now.

Who wants to be US president, now that the position has become a laughing stock? I agree with jsk...How did this happen? I guess we were sleeping. Gore would have been a good president. That he didn't get the office, was the beginning of the breakdown. Rove is one fiendish conniver

I agree oldwhitelady. I think Gore would have made a very decent president. Who cares if he's not as dynamic as some others. He seems honest and fair. He reads and speaks and can think on his feet. The force to be reckoned with now is Rove. His agenda is to keep Republicans in the presidential seat for the next twenty years.
A nightmare. A 'real' nightmare.

RD, oldwhitelady, and jsk, you all got it right. I'm still trying to get over the Afghanistan torture story, which almost made me lose my breakfast. I can't seem to climb out of the "slough of despond". I knew a second Bush term would be bad, but it is worse than my worst nightmare.

Okay, I keep hearing that Hillary is going to run in 2008. What do you think about that? Does that just hand the Republicans another 4 years? My mom told me that she read in the LA Times that there is some talk of Cheney running. Same players, different name at the top of the ticket. We are living in the Nixon legacy, and he's laughing at us from the grave.

I have heard the talk about Cheney running too. Dick v. Hillary. I hope not. This is craven, I know, but I would hate to have to listen to the Republicans in full bloviating-force bash a Clinton again. She's definitely not my first choice, not just for that reason. She's too much of a centrist for me, too much of a lightening rod, too. The Bush admin has shoved me way over to the left.
As for Darth, I mean Dick, it's unthinkable. But he's likely running the horror show we have going now.

This administration is good for one thing, and that is radicalizing those of us who have been moderates. I find Hillary has too many subtexts going on. She's never forthcoming, always evasive, and well, full of bullshit. I want an alive and alert opposition party. I want someone to take on this bigoted right wing machine, and to do so with honest, forthcoming, in-your-face democratic principles. Know anyone who can do that? I wish Al Gore could be rehabilitated, but not reinvented. Just pick up that bruised and battered idealism and step up to the plate.

He's there because over half (give
or take) of our friends and neighbors
put him there, want him there. That's the ultimately depressing thing to me!
The first time around may have been
a tragic fluke. Last year he was a
known quantity--what you see is what
you get--and the electorate returned
him. Im pretty good at sophistry and
self-delusion, but cant see any
glimmer of hope in that. We've met the
enemy, and he is us! Or at least that
nice couple next door.
Always on the sunny side, Theo

one step forward; two steps back. I think the colective "we" get scared and opt for the safety that Bush plays to. Just liek Reagan. The world is too complex for most of us to understznd; to want to understand. We go with pater familias. He may be a tyrant, but he's offering us security and safety, and that's what most of us want.
Face it, the artist, the dreamers, we've never been in the majority, and we never will be. But we WILL be the burr under the saddle, the thorn in the foot, the stictch in the side, that keeps us moving forward.
Here's to the discomforturte of the chosen.
