Gravatar Nice! Those are increasingly wandering to the east from time to time nowdays. One hopes that they would put down some roots and stay a while.

Gravatar You have some talented guests!

Gravatar What type of hummingbird is that? The ones I get, here, are the small green ones.

Gravatar We are still paying for a hard learned lesson with a hummingbird feeder. We chose one with the "flowers" pointing down and hung it outside the kitchen window. The nectar slowly dripped out of the flowers and fell to the ground. This appears to have attracted ants, who then established an empire in the soil under the kitchen window. And now they venture into our house and prowl the kitchen counter at all hours.

Word to the wise: use hummer feeders with the flowers point up as shown in this posting's photo. Damned ants!

Gravatar Hoeing the young peas.

Aaack! Choke! Explosive sneeze!

Hummingbird up the nose.

Gravatar Clearly cervantes short-changed a beggar:

One fine day as I was walkin' down the street
Met a beggar man with rags upon his feet
Took a penny from my pocket,
In his tin cup I did drop it
And I heard him say as I made my retreat.

May the bird of paradise fly up your nose
May an elephant caress you with his toes
May your wife be plagued with runners in her hose
May the bird of paradise fly up your nose.

Either that, or I want some of what he's been smoking.

Gravatar This needs lot of work, but as a procrastination tool, it did the job brilliantly!

Gravatar Rurality-- the hummingbirds that you get there just move through? They don't stay? I'm surprised. I would have thought for sure hummingbirds would love it there, like all the other beautiful creatures you photograph.
Phantom Scribbler-- I was surprised and grateful that they actually came up with some nice stuff.
OWL--These hummingbirds are called Rufous. They look like iridescent red when they are flying in a blur. They also look red when they bathe in the pond. But up close like this, they are multi-colored and beautiful.
Pablo-- We always worry about what our feeders will attract. Sometimes people put bird feeders on their decks, where they become easily accessible to rodents. Good luck with the ants.
Cervantes-- Nice job. Very funny too.
CCorax--I've heard that little poem before, I just don't know where or why!
GrrlScientist-- That is really a beautiful haiku. I have a suspicion that you've lived that moment with the fierce living jewel on your open hand. Beautiful.

Gravatar It's the beginning of a song from the 60s. Need I say more?

By the way, the haiku are delightful and the photo exquisite. I would LOVE it if my friends made me write haiku when I go to visit them. You bums sure know how to make a visit enjoyable.

Gravatar I have never had a host demand poetry from me.

Cool.

Gravatar Lovely haiku you've all written.

Preparations done
Flowers blooming, feeder hung
No hummingbirds come

Gravatar Extra points for JaneBoatler .. her Hiaku rhymes!

Gravatar CCorax -- I don't think you want any of what I've been smoking, unless you are prepared to have a happening.

Gravatar C. Corax---Kathy--- it was more of a strong request. they took it as in interesting challenge. we were all counting syllables on our fingers all afternoon. i was the laggard in the group, not finishing til last---then blogger went down for the evening.

janeboatler---wow!!! way good.

GrrlScientist---you're in the midst of grading, aren't you. right you are. extra credit for jane.

Cervantes---send me some.

Gravatar Thanks for the humming bird picks. I think I've mentioned this but I've only seem them here in GA a handful of times.

Gravatar Golly! Thanks everyone. That's my consolation for not having seen a hummingbird yet this year.

Gravatar Hi
Just browsing through the blog world and came across yours and I liked it, I'll be back.

Best wishes
Dr. Rob

I thought I known how cute hummingbirds could be, and then I saw a fledgling
in our back yard, its parents near by.

Gravatar Rosewood-- That's such a lovely image-- the fledgling hummingbird. Did you get a photograph of it? I'd love to see it. I'm sure the hummingbirds are nesting somewhere in our yard, but we haven't seen any sign yet.

Gravatar Poems of birds delight

The bloggers become one

With winged ones tonight

Gravatar SMSS-- Oh so good, one with the winged ones. I like it.

Gravatar hey -- off topic, but, do you get bats at night? How about a bat haiku?

Hmmm?

Gravatar I'm sure there are bats in the area, we just haven't seen them
You got a bat haiku?

Gravatar Some stay here, most migrate to parts north. Technically there are only ruby-throats here, but Alabama gets strange hummers all the time these days.

Gravatar You got a bat haiku?

RD --
I got ya bat haiku right HERE!

(snicker) Me thinks me morning martini has kicked in.
