Gravatar ...and you can spin a poem just as consistently as Earth spins.

Gravatar Damn, RD, you are good!

Gravatar Two million three hundred and forty thousand references to Darwin's birthday in Google, but who else but Rexroth's Daughter could capture the spirit more perfectly? Enchanting words and photos. Another gift to us ...

Gravatar Thank you for that sunrise and for the the red bird in its reflected glory. Just the thing on a grey, snowy afternoon.

Happy Darwinmas!

Gravatar Darwin's astonishing insight set us free. Now we understand what we really are. Let us make the most of it.

Gravatar oh, RD. so gorgeous. thanks.

Gravatar Stunning, as usual!

Gravatar RD

...and Happy Darwin Day to you too!

Columbus Day is a day of mourning at Earth Home Garden, but Darwin Day is another story altogether, and yes it's wonderful to know how we got here, and now if we could just learn to fit in instead of conquering everything in sight.

Gravatar FC-- Thank you. I've been writing poems ever since I was little. My mom found a poem I wrote when I was 7, and the first line was, "Now that I am old..."

janeboatler-- Uh-oh, I'm blushing. Thank you.

pam-- You words are so kind. It's nice to be appreciated.

handdrummer-- You definitely caught the sunlight on the robin's breast. I couldn't believe how bright it was shining in the morning light.

Cervantes-- Your post today was inspirational. Some of us do understand what we really are. Unfortunately, we have no power

kathy a-- thank you. Glad you liked it.

kim-- I see the earth stunning as usual. I'm just glad it translates!

jim-- I'm so glad you stopped by to say hello. I'd be so happy if we could fit in with all the other evolving creatures. Wouldn't life on earth be great?

Gravatar Lovely, RD. You made me take a deep breath, thank you.

Gravatar Once again, RD, you leave me breathless with your clarity and the beauty of your words and images.

Gravatar Wonderful poetry, wonderful photos. That sunrise is magnificent. I would entitle it, "In the Beginning."

Gravatar Oh, I had to save the Madrone trees picture. It reminds me of pictures depicting the dinosaur days. I think it's because of the way you caught the light. It is fantastic.

Gravatar RD

I stop by more than you think, Dharma Bums is one of the best blogs going, but I guess I haven't commented here very often.

I have remedied one oversight though.

Dharma Bums is now a link from Earth Home Garden.

...again, Happy Darwin Day, I love the photos, the poem, and simply knowing there are still people like you & DPR in the world.

Gravatar Beautiful sentiments and photos as always! Thank you!!!

alan

Gravatar That last pic - wow you caught it perfectly. Beautiful, RD!

Gravatar Stunning! Overwhelming! Astounding! Thrilling! Inspiring! Beautiful!
... and I like your photos and poetry too.

Gravatar Mm. Red. Sunrise. Birth. Passion.

Again, I cannot praise your photography enough. If you don't end up with a exhibit in an arts center, either there's no justice in the world, or you are just too self-effacing. And I still think your photos would be the perfect accompaniment to an on-demand, benefit-for-a-good-cause Bums' cookbook.

Oh, and the recipes in haiku! Or as koans! Okay, I'm being silly. But the haiku are a perfect marriage of words to photos.

Gravatar Breathtaking as usual!

And thank you so much for your visit on my place. If you have a chance, check "The Whales of August", it's a moving film.

Gravatar Reflecting on the news of Cheney's shooting of another hunter, Holden at First Draft comes up with this on one of Bush's attempts to appear macho on a faux dove hunt:

He aimed. He shot. Blasted that dove right out of the sky. At least he thought it was a dove. Turns out the bird was really a killdeer, protected by federal law. An embarrassed Bush, who obviously couldn't distinguish a 10-inch long brown-and-white bird with two black bands and a loud and constant whistle from a long greyish/white bird that coos—paid a fine for his stupidity.

He turns everyting to sh*t, doesn't he?

Gravatar Did you guys see the moon set yesterday (Sunday) morning? I know you were up! I was riding in a shuttle to the airport and couldn't photograph it, but it was really nice going behind the Olympics.

Gravatar Everywhere, trees are dancing.

Gravatar Artist Robin glows
She captures feathered glory
Robin serenade

Gravatar the last shot and the accompanying haiku were stunning. something about the 4 billion year-old orb glowing through the flimsy wooden construct we think is permanent... thanks for the perspective.

Gravatar MB-- It's what draws me out of bed on those cold mornings. A breathtaking sky. Some mornings I say to dpr, I'm not going to run out with the camera no matter what. He looks outside and says, You may not want to look outside then!

owl-- I love those madrones in the morning light. They reflect the sun so beautifully.

jim-- Thank you so much for blogrolling us. You have such a fine blog yourself. Great photography.

alan-- So glad you liked it.

OW-- You're too kind. So many of you who leave comments here are such fine photographers. It's so cool that we all enjoy each other's work so much.

CCorax-- Your praise goes straight to my heart. It's just nice to post the photos and have some fun with haikus. I am so deeply moved that you like them.

Sonia-- Thank you, and also for the tip on Whales of August.

janeboatler-- The two of them should never be allowed near a gun, nor should they permitted to stay in office. Their incompetence will be the stuff of legends.

Phil-- I missed that moonset. I was out, and those madrones are on the western horizon, but I didn't see the moon.

Rurality-- I love that line. I can imagine the trees dancing all over the planet. It's lovely.

Gravatar RD, your response made me laugh. Argh, yer pirate's a good man, methinks. I came back to look at that robin. Great shot — aptly enough! I saw a flock of robins the other day, here. Got me all excited.

Gravatar RD, if I were a publisher, I'd draw up a contract immediately for a book of your photos captioned with your haikus, but - alas - I'm not.

Gravatar Terrific--all of it, but the final shot and the words beneath it brought me to my feet. Bravo.

Gravatar believe it or not, I have a guy who does my hardwood floors, and Ed claims he is a direct descedent of Darwin. He is a colorful Santa Cruz motorcycle ridin' hard wood makin' guy.

Gravatar I really thought about something that would recognize Darwin's birthday and nothing really seemed as appropriate as what I see here; a celebration of the earth.

However - there are two fallouts from Darwin's understanding of how evolution worked that strike me as particularly important in these times:

Every organism on earth is related to us all. Every one, be it worm or spider; amoeba or diatom; whale or lion.

We are each and every one of us the end of a long line of survivors that stretches back 3.8 billion years.

Gravatar Photographic Art & Poetry. A nice combination, Ma'am. Very nice post, indeed! Thanks!

Gravatar AWESOME! Loved this ... specially the last line ... even without us ... so logical, yet at some level so hard to really "get" ... sometimes
